California is on the verge of equipping itself with new tools in the fight against hate. Legislation like AB 1079 (@AsmCoreyJackson), which declares hate a public health issue and establishes a Hate Crimes Intervention Unit, and AB 1185 (@JesseGabrielCA), which expands the eligibility for the state's Nonprofit Security Grant Program to ensure the safety of a large network of at-risk institutions. Today, Governor @GavinNewsom released a letter to CA School Districts providing guidance around the development of an #EthnicStudies curriculum, including promotion of the California Department of Education (CDE) approved Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum and a warning to districts who are at risk of adopting alternative curricula that include antisemitic or biased content.
