@nicolegelinas @CentralParkNYC In Central Park, they are actually eliminating infrastructure for pedestrians. Walk signs disabled and covered in burlap, red lights eliminated, audible crossings for the blind- gone! It's a slam dunk ADA case!

The obvious natural experiment for this is ... @CentralParkNYC . Passenger cars are banned, commercial trucks with business in the park must and generally do adhere to a slow speed limit, and the lanes are wide open for bikes, including a theoretical fast lane and slow lane. It's been a disaster, because of the poor regulation of e-bikes. This time, enforcement and evidence that that enforcement is working must come before any new infrastructure ... it's the enforcement changes that have lagged reality, not the infrastructure.

The experiment of "safety in numbers" and "adding infrastructure" has been tried, and FAILED! Just look at Third Ave on the UES- 8' wide protected bike lane, wider on passing blocks, 3' buffer, bike-only signals, e-bike speed limit signs. Still, chaos-e bikes running reds, biking in bus lane, going wrong way, through pedestrians, etc...infrastructure isn't doing spit!

Canal street has been a mess and it’s gotten worse. Illegal venders lay their illegal goods on the sidewalks (both sides) and reduce pedestrian walk way. NYPD / DSNY needs to clean this up. AG James should go after selling counterfeit and work with ICE to deport illegal immigrants who commit crimes. Yea, never happening.

@Cat_in_a_Bowl @westsiderag you dont spend much time in CP. back in March 2025 a redesign of lanes started. Part of the design was turning the traffic lights to flashing yellows. In any case, Cyclists have never adhered to the lights going back to the days when the park was only closed on weekends.

Bikes speed faster than cars. Most bikes stop at the light but several don’t.

This bothered me and I couldn’t figure out why until now. It takes someone so full of himself with all the privilege of power and protection to walk into a roomful of people who’ve committed crimes; and not petty ones. It’s not about being a mayor for commoners/criminals alike, it’s a show of how truly untouchable he feels.

I hope she wakes up and recovers. The one factor in @CentralParkNYC that has changed over the past six years is the proliferation of the ebikes, many of them commercial vehicles, and now combined with a very confusing cross system. Yet the park prefers to focus on banning horses based on one tragic freak accident.
