BREAKING: REAL LEADERSHIP! Mayor Zohran Mamdani announces that he will not accept an 18% increase to his own salary despite the City Council approving it. And his reason was absolutely perfect... "I will not accept a pay raise," Mamdani told reporters. "I just... I haven't knocked on anyone's door in New York City and they've said their concern is that the mayor makes too little. That's not my concern." He added that he wants that money to instead flow into "the pockets of those who are struggling in the city." The City Council voted to raise their own salaries from $148,500 to $175,500 and the mayor's pay by 18%, or from $258,750 to $305,800. Zohran's refusal to accept that additional money proves once again that he's laser-focused on serving his constituents. Contrast this genuine commitment to public service instead of personal enrichment to Donald Trump's behavior. This President has used his office to dramatically inflate his own wealth and that of his cronies and family. In 2024, his net worth was roughly $2.3 billion. Now it's close to $6.5 billion. I am heartbroken for the family of the man who was killed last night at a basketball tournament in Harlem. This senseless violence must stop. New Yorkers deserve to spend the summer watching and playing sports, attending community events, and enjoying our public spaces — places where families, friends and neighbors joyfully gather, not where people are at risk of becoming victims to gun violence. 

We are working closely with our community partners to provide services to those affected and the entire community. Our administration is using every lever across agencies to prevent further violence and ensure all New Yorkers can safely enjoy the city this summer.

There is no way to id a driver of an e-bike because they are not licensed like a car is. So the only way the city can actually hold them accountable for reckless riding, not obeying traffic laws or hitting and injuring someone is to make them appear in court where they pay a fine or are dismissed. If you don’t want reckless riders held accountable then keep things as they are. No licenses, no regulation, no enforcement and enormous danger to the public and themselves. Right now on the rare occasion anyone gets a ticket he takes it and throws it in the garbage as said by the police commissioner. @NYCMayor Was it a firearm?

Yesterday, during Friday prayers at the Muslim Center of New York in Queens, a man reached for his pocket and congregants saw what looked like a firearm, creating a terrifying situation for Muslim New Yorkers who had gathered to worship. I’m immensely grateful and relieved that an MTA employee, a cab driver and an NYPD officer acted quickly to help ensure no one was hurt. Every New Yorker should be able to observe their religion without fear or intimidation.
