Do you want to know why Direct Democracy (DD) and Liquid Democracy (LD) systems keep breaking DAOs and will continue to break them? 💥 ( hint: they both have fatal flaws. 🐛 ) Years of thinking broken down below 👇

Someone remade the GTA trailer as if it was set in Vancouver Canada using AI. It's sooo well done. I normally don't have enough time for video games but I'd be very tempted to make time to play this if it came out. With the direction AI is heading, we're going to enter a world where your perfect game can be generated for you. Like any powerful tool, what matters is how we use it. Will we create games that help us or games that will drown us into a never ending world of fantasies that disconnect us from reality. x.com/604RAW/status/…

@yeeeeezos @604RAW haha you're right I saw the exact same problem. If you stop that clip you'll also see that the position of the LG bridge doesn't look like it's going to NV as you'd expect.

@drewcoffman Bang on! Apathy gridlocked and then killed the DAO. Wrote about this problem in 2022. Proposals aren't the right tool for the job we want to do. x.com/AFurmanczyk/st…

Sad to see @nounsdao has been captured today because of voter apathy. Thanks @punk4156 🫡🙏 An old article I wrote in 2022 predicted that apathy was 1 of the 4 root causes that would destroy a DAO. web.archive.org/web/2025080517…

@griffgreen Hi Griff! Many DAOs are operating as Liquid democracies, ENS is one example. What's the definition? If you can delegate your votes to someone else to vote on your behalf, but you can also vote with your own tokens if you choose, then that's LD.

@AFurmanczyk @drewcoffman @MetaPoll_xyz this is a very cool experiment, I’m a huge believer towards collective consciousness / group intelligence too! I’d love to learn more and see if i could contribute somewhere and learn from your experience.

Nouns DAO has been captured. @GlitterProtocol founder @0xdusk_eth and anon conspirators like @0xjanedoe2008 @makenounsgreatagain have finally fully taken over @nounsdao After not voting on props for months (which has made it nearly impossible to pass proposals), they've collected enough votes to make decisions for the DAO as a small group and have all come out to vote over a new reserve auction price for Nouns at 4x higher than our daily auction. This act will likely halt income, burn daily Nouns, prevent new buyers/voters, and help them maintain a "book value" through not passing proposals and not diluting their past buys more. IMO this is a sad day for Nouns and I don't think there is much coming back from a move like this. Although we may have been doomed anyways from their lack of vision and ideas to actually make Nouns better besides staking eth with their friends at @mETHProtocol 🫠 cc @zachxbt

@vspace @drewcoffman And yes, there is a solution that automates people's influence in a DAO to construct a decision space that allows the DAO to act on behalf of it's members with high resolution. We've been building it for years and have been mostly ignored. @MetaPoll_xyz

the voter apathy is real, it makes you think whether DAOs were even meant for us?? like i think the structure is so much more appropriate for agents. i tried solving voter apathy by trying to automate governance but that wasn’t a feasible option either. praying someone solves this

Is @nounsdao captured? After a proposal approved today, each new Noun auctioned will have a minimum price of 2.8 ETH. This price reflects what each governance token of Nouns is worth relative to the treasury - its "book value." Today, NFTs are auctioned at ~0.8 ETH. According to the proposal, selling Nouns below book value dilutes all holders and only incentivizes new buyers to flip them at a premium on the secondary market. The problem is that the proposal carries several red flags: -> Auctions are Nouns' primary source of revenue. Raising the price to 2.8 ETH could kill demand for the NFTs and, consequently, the DAO's only income stream. -> makenounsgreatagain.eth, who submitted the proposal, is an address whose first transaction was one week ago. It has never voted in Nouns governance. -> The largest Nouns whales - 5gram, 0xdusk, janedoe, and autismcentral.eth - all voted in favor of the proposal submitted by an address that had never participated in governance. All signs point to a proposal influenced by the largest Nouns holders. They already held tacit control over the DAO, but now they are effectively pausing Nouns auctions. Technically, the Nouns DAO DUNA has the authority to veto proposals. But the question remains: would this proposal be considered malicious enough to warrant a veto? A notable detail: punk4156 and the founders' wallet (Nounders) voted against the proposal, but it was not enough to stop it from passing.
