The skill gap in hospitality is not temporary. New hires lack both technical and soft skills. Handbooks and orientation can't solve this. Only continuous, role-based training does.

Hearts in Hospitality came out of a desire for the Institute of Hospitality to recognise the very best of our #HospitalityFamily. Not the headline makers, award winners, or those who see themselves on the front of magazines, but the people whom we simply could not do without. The individuals who quietly keep our businesses, and more importantly our communities, thriving. What I value most, is that this initiative was imagined, built, and brought to life by our own team, outside of their day jobs. Leon Williams FIH, Jo Smith FIH, Max Lawrence FIH MTMI and our wider Institute took the smallest seed of an idea and transformed it into something genuinely meaningful. Hearts in Hospitality reflects exactly who we are as an Institute in 2025. A community where anyone, from any background, can do more than just belong. They can grow, develop, and thrive. And in a year where our profession has faced relentless challenges, and felt that our voice is not being heard, it feels especially fitting that this is how we chose to close our 2025 events calendar, by celebrating the exceptional. You can find details on our Hearts in Hospitality initiative, and how to make a nominate, here: instituteofhospitality.org/hearts-in-hosp… #imin #HeartsInHospitality #InspireMotivateLearn #StrongerTogether

Hotels don't just support themselves. They spur the economy for the surrounding area. @repgabeevans discusses how the hospitality industry supports communities by encouraging other businesses to open nearby.

@mtnhousewife These are great points. Restaurant and hotel operators should take note. Try to make someone feel comfortable and welcome. Don't just move them along the steps of service.

The easiest way to offer hospitality: *If someone comes to your house to visit, invite them in and have them sit in the sitting area. *Offer something to drink and eat: Cold drinks, lemonade, tea, coffee, cake or cookies. Keep these items on hand. *If you need help starting conversation, you can always ask them about their lives: jobs, family, interests and hobbies. *If you follow the cleaning schedule presented here, your house will always be guest ready and you will feel confident in having others to your home. It’s especially important to invite guest to your home during the holidays, as many people are lonely during this time.

A very interesting view into historical ideals of social flourishing for men - presented in the book Albion’s seed (and sent to me by @rSanti97) “A gentleman of Virginia took pride in his hospitality, and gained honor by its display.”

Feeling incredibly grateful after my time in Warsaw. ❤️ The engineering talent is world-class, the ambition is real, and the hospitality… just beautiful. Every meal, every conversation, every story reminded me how special this place is. And I wouldn’t have been able to uncover the stories without the most incredible people at @elevenlabs. And yes, the visit is on purpose in a November ⏸️ Thank you for making me feel at home. I’ll be back soon 🇵🇱🏠

We were thrilled to curate this exciting collaboration between @f1academy driver Alba Hurup Larsen and De L'Europe Amsterdam. It was a celebration of luxury hospitality, female leadership and driving innovation during this past weekend’s F1 race in Zandvoort.

@david_perell Sounds like a great way to overcome the opportunity cost of living abroad- not seeing family and friends. If you build it...

There’s a kind of guy who loves people but doesn’t like traveling, so he gets really good at hospitality and designing spaces that are worth traveling to, and constantly has friends visiting which lets him set the tone for all his social interactions. A concealed power move.

@andruyeung I like your style. It has a much better ring than AI consultant. I've been twisting my 17 years of restaurant experience into AI based solutions for common problems.

Every company should hire a “vibe-coder-in-residence” A smart, curious, semi-technical person who shadows the CEO, spots problems in the business, and builds tools to fix them. The first industries that come to mind: hospitality, restaurants, hotels, transportation, and even boring businesses like laundromats, insurance, and real estate. Industries that traditionally have not incorporated a lot of new software. There are so many small inefficiencies hiding in these businesses that a little bit of software can eliminate. At scale, these tiny improvements add up to pretty significant time and cost savings. Private equity firms are already starting to do this - buying and rolling up traditional businesses and injecting in AI to boost margins at scale. But it’s still early. If you’re early career or still in school, there’s an incredible opportunity here. Consider playing with the new vibe coding tools. Finding a niche with a goal of helping old, archaic companies adopt new tech. And if you run a traditional business that doesn’t use much tech, consider bringing in a vibe coder. It might be the best ROI hire you make this decade.

@UKHofficial @UKHospKate @BBCNews It's incredibly difficult to pay trained teams a respectable salary and keep menu prices in line with customer expectations. Labour plus supplier price increases have not been kind to restaurants.

"We are at a tipping point whereby those employment costs and job taxes are costing jobs. People are not able to recruit." Increases to wage rates are yet another cost hospitality has to deal with & it's impacting employment. @UKHospKate was on @BBCNews this morning. #TaxedOut

An asset is anything that remains valuable without people. For example, a Michelin star makes a restaurant desirable, and a best-selling book attracts clients. The entrepreneur's job is to build assets and draw people to leverage them.
