I agree. I saw a greener Indiranagar in the early 90s, interior roads lined with neem like leaves tree and there was literal green canopy in every street. A white flaky pest hit them all, so authorities cut them down and planted these Tabebuia, devil's piss, ashoka etc and other ornamental trees instead. Not as green as before, but at least 50% have grown to what we see today. The trees along CMH Road are at end-of-life now and a hazard.

CMH road before metro was like present HAL airport green cover! Excuses can be a plenty but lost green cover can’t be brought bk !

Hello, an Indiranagara huduga from the early 90s here 👋🏼🙂. The trees you’re referring to on CMH Road are over 35–40 years old, mostly Gulmohar and African Tulip (often called “Devil’s Piss”). Gulmohar typically has a safe lifespan of around 30 years. Its roots don’t grow very deep, and there are specific safety guidelines that need to be followed. So in some cases, removal becomes necessary for safety reasons. The African Tulip tree tends to last slightly longer, but its stability depends heavily on sunlight and soil conditions. So both varieties you see there might be approaching the end of life, so the forest dept must do something to them or replace with new similar shady saplings. They cannot be protected anymore and now more of a safety hazard. 🙂

Bengaluru: GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao announced steps to improve pedestrian & cycling infrastructure across GBA limits. He launched Hejje-GALA initiative, conceptualised by WRI, Walkaluru, and Urban Morph, promoting walking & cycling in major employment hubs across the five City Corporations. Footpaths will be upgraded, and data collected over three months will guide infrastructure improvements. Corporate participants include ORRCA, ELCIA, WEPPIA, Amazon, Biocon, Intel, Dell, Siemens, and more. Registration is open at hejjegala.in. The inaugural 2km walk started at Vidhana Soudha Metro Station, passed Cubbon Park & ended at GBA Head Office, with over 40 corporate leaders and senior officials participating. NGOs and City Corporation officials will collaborate to inspect and improve footpaths @GBA_office @GBAChiefComm
