@JavierBlas 3–5 years to fix 17% of capacity? That sounds wildly overstated. LNG infrastructure doesn’t take half a decade to repair — unless the goal is to keep the market tight for as long as possible.

QatarEnergy CEO says the Iranian attack overnight damaged ~17% of its LNG production capacity, and it would take 3-5 years to repair the damage. reuters.com/business/energ…

@ShaleTier7 Don't worry, Mark Carney is going to add Canada to Europe which will allow them to tap a rich resource of Indian students

Tough blow for Europe here tbh. Second generational energy crisis about to hit them straight in the teeth. Both within 5 years. Could have been entirely avoided by simply not reading EMBER think pieces on solar panels.

David’s argument is that bringing foreigners here (some of whom commit crimes) will make it less likely for American criminals to commit crimes. Foreigners can only supplement US crime. Not reduce it. David is a shameless, despicable ideological prostitute.
David J. Bier@David_J_Bier

If the crime rate is lower, your daughter is less likely to be harmed by anyone. Like most nativists, Oilfield Rando can't figure out the difference between a rate and level. (You're MUCH safer in NYC w/ more murders than St. Louis with fewer)

@adeptus_smb You fundamentally don't understand any of this and it makes the time assumptions you've made completely bunk. SPR releases don't buy anyone the time you think they do because it will take 200 days to release 400mmbo from SPRs

I'm a former pod bro so obviously can't help but at least take a look at back of the napkin math on Hormuz even if it has no use to me. Doomer case of persistent >$120 oil seems kinda tough? Framework: 20mbpd through hormuz, Iran is 2m so 18m disrupted Easy mitigation Saudi 5m east-west pipeline capacity China is 5m, surely will turn the screws on Iran to allow passage? So call it 8m disrupted that's tougher to mitigate. Even assuming this is offline for some time the cost curve shift takes you from $60's breakeven oil to $80-90's (I'm a pleb with no real market research access so maybe this chart I'm using is just wrong, it's also a 2030 chart so could be way off near term). IEA proposed 400mbpd release gives India ~60 days to sort out a deal with Iran, if so that's another 3mbpd of resolved disruption. Longer term mitigation Venezuela 3mbpd if they go back to peak Russia 1m if you ease sanctions or China just buys anyway Guyana 1m as they ramp next 2 years So you just need gulf states to sort out 2-5m of mitigation at some point? Lmk what I'm missing P4 @DeepDishEnjoyer

I've seen some really terrible takes about the fertilizer markets, and I decided to put together a quick report for it. Reach out if you'd like a copy

The more I read and learn about the 23.6 million barrels that Canada is contributing to support global oil demand (as part of the IEA's emergency release amid the Middle East disruptions), the less I understand where that specific number actually comes from. It truly seems like they just came up with a figure and are now trying to piece together a cohesive story around it, but nothing here makes any real sense. 🫣🪒

@Albertagarbage @allengilmer Depends on the PPA. Some of the agreements signed with tech companies and big beautiful DOE helicopter money make them work. Its not competitive with gas in free market though.

Had an interesting conversation with old friend geologist James Levy in El Paso about the complications of Hot Dry Rock geothermal and why it's not just about thermal gradient. It's a lot further away than I thought.

If you bought $100K worth of $ATH at $0.12 in your TFSA, You would be sitting on over $7.5M tax free in Canada. i think this is what happened to those $5M plus ac in TFSA in Canada. 75X 😀
