Last week I learned that a serious software error in New Jersey’s Motor Vehicle System led to the registration of roughly 6,600 people who indicated that they were not U.S. citizens between June 2023 and June 2024, almost three years prior to my taking office. These individuals answered "no" when asked on a keypad whether they were a U.S. citizen when applying for drivers' licenses and identification cards, but through no fault of their own, the system registered them anyway. This happened under the previous administration and, upon learning this information, I immediately ordered my chief counsel to launch an investigation to get to the bottom of what occurred. I also ordered the removal of any residents from our voter rolls who were erroneously added between June 2023 and June 2024. The new MVC Administrator that I appointed has begun the process of replacing the vendor responsible for administering the system. Our preliminary analysis shows fewer than 400 individuals who were newly registered for the first time because of the error voted. They were registered as Democrats, Republicans and Unaffiliated voters and were scattered across the state. I want to underscore how seriously I take this matter. As a military veteran who swore an oath to defend our Constitution, and as a former federal prosecutor, I believe the integrity of our elections is fundamental to our democracy. I am appalled by the reckless failures that allowed this to happen and the lack of transparency shown by those in charge at the time. This failure didn’t occur under my watch, but accountability starts now. I am taking action to prevent anything like it from occurring in the future and make sure those responsible are held accountable. As the Trump Administration tries to weaponize elections for political gain, I am ensuring we protect our elections. Let me be clear: Donald Trump has zero credibility on the issue of election integrity. For more than ten years, he has worked to undermine Americans' faith in our elections by spreading lies about legitimate election results, attempting to overturn a free and fair election, encouraging an attack on our Capitol when he couldn't accept the will of the voters, and defunding election security at the federal level. The difference is simple: when we find a problem, we don't hide it, deny it, or invent conspiracies. We investigate it, we fix it, and we tell the public. That's what accountability and good governance look like, and that's exactly what my administration is doing. New Jerseyans should have confidence that every eligible citizen can vote, every lawful vote will be counted, and every reasonable step will be taken to protect the integrity of our elections. That's my responsibility, and it's one I will never stop fighting to uphold.

@Travisjost1 The humidity in Tennessee is real. It’s a lot. I knew a family that moved to my neighborhood from California during covid. They moved back to Cali about 18 months ago because they couldn’t stand the Knoxville allergies/pollen.

I heard a story about someone wanting to move to Tennessee. They toured 30 houses in one weekend, most of them with land. They had so many ticks on them at the end of the day the freaked out and cancelled the move.

The absolute worst thing to happen to corporate IT in the last decade is the sudden, inescapable obsession with integrating AI into every single mundane business process. Our CEO just returned from a 3-day executive retreat in Silicon Valley, completely intoxicated by buzzwords and demanding that my department implement a localized generative AI model by the end of the week. Mind you, we are the IT department, not a frontier lab. He called an emergency all-hands meeting to announce that we were transitioning to a bleeding-edge, machine-learning paradigm that'd "take us into the future" He looked directly at me during the presentation, confidently stating that the IT department was already hard at work building an internal neural network to predict customer purchasing habits. I had absolutely no intention of doing 40 hours of highly complex machine learning engineering just so the executive board could feel like they were innovating. Instead, I spent exactly 20 minutes writing a basic landing page with a sleek, futuristic dark mode interface and a massive, glowing blue orb in the center of the screen. I connected the search bar to an outdated Bash script from 2008 that essentially just functions as a random number generator attached to a database of pre-approved corporate buzzwords. When the CEO came to my office for a private demonstration this morning, I handed him the keyboard and told him he was interfacing directly with our new quantum-heuristic prediction matrix. He typed in a query asking the AI how we should optimize our Q3 marketing strategy in the midwestern demographic sector. The script processed the input, spun the glowing blue orb for exactly 22 seconds to simulate heavy processing load, and spat out 1 heavily randomized sentence. The screen declared that the company must leverage holistic paradigm shifts to maximize asynchronous bandwidth alignment. The CEO literally gasped, pulled out his iPhone to take a picture of the monitor, and whispered that it was brilliant. He sent an email to the entire company, branding it as our proprietary digital visionary and strictly forbidding anyone from questioning its output. I'm currently being praised as a master architect of machine learning, and my department budget was just increased by $75k to accommodate server maintenance for the new system. I plan to use that entire budget increase to install a commercial-grade espresso machine in the server room and hire a local contractor to soundproof the walls. Corporate executives don't actually want advanced technological solutions. They just want a shiny, glowing box that validates the meaningless business-slop they read on Twitter.

@AmericanAir @SecDuffy Finally got off the plane- 2 hours after landing in calm weather. Good news: @AmericanAir had a rep meet me at the gate to offer a meal voucher. I declined their incredibly generous offer of a bologna sandwich and sprite for all my troubles, and those of 160 other passengers.

Going on 2 hours now, just 100 yards from the gate after landing at LGA, @AmericanAir keeps coming up with more grotesquely incompetent reasons why we are stuck on this plane, cannot get off, and there's no accountability for any of this How many hours can they keep us locked in this plane on the ground with no ability to escape because the airline is too incompetent and lazy to have a gate, anywhere, for this full flight of passengers to deplane?

Air conditioning should not be treated as a normal answer to every hot day. It is an emergency tool that has been turned into a lifestyle. If we cannot function without machines cooling every room, then we have failed at housing, planning and climate responsibility.

Let’s now deal reasonably, instead of hysterically, with what to do. First, the flow of illegal aliens into the country has collapsed to negligible numbers. So securing the border mitigates that issue. Second, the President could issue a new executive order on birthright citizenship to apply to American territories. It is an existing and well-settled piece of law that the 14th Amendment does not automatically apply to American territories. Much of the birth tourism industry focuses on Guam and other American territories in the Pacific. The President could use a narrowly tailored executive order in American territories to shut down birth tourism there. Third, the Secretary of State, under existing laws, could crack down on pregnant women traveling to the United States to engage in birth tourism and use his clout to pressure foreign governments to help with compliance. There are plenty of executive actions that could be taken without the hysteria of those online declaring an end to America. Yesterday, the United States Supreme Court declared that the United States will continue interpreting the 14th Amendment as it has been interpreted for the last 140 years. That’s all that happened. The President can continue to secure the border, deport illegal aliens, and crack down on birth tourism without running afoul of the Court’s opinion. The Congress, too, can and should crack down on birth tourism. For all of you blasting the conservatives on the Court, remember that the President could have more narrowly tailored his original executive order. The maximalist position always tends to lose in the Supreme Court, and that’s the President and his advisors’ problem, not the Supreme Court’s problem. ewerickson.substack.com/p/calm-down

• You and your friends would steal 80% of it • you’d come in 300% over budget and still spend 3x what you taxed • you’d start 2 useless departments that soak up billions yearly forever going forward • the entire mess would be riddled with bribes, fraud, and fake daycares • you’d be proposing a 2nd, 3rd, 4th and then permanent wealth tax to deal with the “gross underfunding” of your corrupt “childcare for everyone” empire. The icing on the cake? Childcare costs in the US would increase by 40% in 2 years.
Elizabeth Warren@SenWarren

If Elon Musk paid my ultra-millionaire wealth tax, we could pay for child care for all three and four year olds in America.

@PhysicsHawk @philipnation Yes. My feeling on it is, get a commentary & at least you’re laying it next to your Bible instead of mixing it in with it. And I’m not comfortable with a person’s name on it. Like So & So Study Bible. I could not care less about so and so. Just the Bible, Holy Spirit version.

Might be an unpopular opinion on here but replacing a concert with a speech is lame and boring. Just go out and get real musicians to play. Don’t cancel the concert just because a bunch of washed up old has-beens canceled. There are hundreds of artists out there who might not be famous but would absolutely leap at the chance to play on a stage like this.

My parents bought a house in Alabama to escape the tyranny of the north during covid, and I followed after losing my job in Nashville I thought it’d be a pit stop on my way to bigger and better things, but instead Alabama is where I met a guy at a small town bar, played tennis with him, went to the beach with him, married him, bought a house with him, and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl in a hospital down the street from where we met Alabama is home now, in every sense of the word, and never in my life did I imagine I’d say that Also, it’s beautiful
