@bradspratt @JoEllisReally Well, with self-ID being the law of the land, we're already at nothing.
English

One thing I keep coming back to with bathroom bans is that removing trans women doesn’t remove risk. It only removes some perception of risk.
Women can assault other women.
Men can break the law regardless of signs on the door.
Bad people don’t follow rules.
In most areas of society, we accept that risk can’t be reduced to zero, so we punish wrongdoing instead of restricting everyone ahead of time.
But in this debate, the standard sometimes becomes:
if harm is possible, access should be restricted.
That’s not how we handle risk anywhere else. Imagine driving privileges, guns, etc., all being handled that way?
English

It blows my mind that people cannot see this is just men telling women what to do.
Kăskă (she/her)🏳️⚧️@KaskaJessica
Transphobes like you are responsible Helen. Which is why so many things for women are being forced to cancel or shut down due to your bigotry. Transphobes sue anyone who allows trans people to do anything so why are you surprised when they shut down rather than risk legal action?

In Texas airports I’m technically not allowed to use the women’s restroom (though the airport would get fined, not me with how the silly law was written) so I use the 3rd space but I always feel bad because it’s the family room and usually there’s a line of parents and kids. Often times the lines are so bad I have to give up and try to go on the flight instead. Anytime I’ve used the men’s room, looking like I do. I get questioned, gawked, and sometimes cat called.
English

@JoEllisReally @wesyang @ColinLA Those are important for people in general. I was using the third space at the airport the other day after a loooooooooooong wait for a flight.
English

@wesyang @ColinLA @AndInTheEnd2 3rd spaces are not always possible. I’m in favor of more and prefer them
English

@MountainGal18 @JoEllisReally @AndInTheEnd2 the transgendereds need to have a bloody civil war. whichever side wins can come to the public with their ask and i think most americans will give it a fair hearing
English

I had some blood work done and my practitioner was explaining the results to me. She paused and said she had no idea why I was not categorized as female. I told her I knew exactly why.
My patient portal profile asked for my identity (why?), my sexual orientation (not your business), and my legal sex, which is medically irrelevant. I ignored the first 2 and marked the 3rd as "prefer not to disclose." There was nowhere to report my sex. Apparently my blood test data is not getting adjusted by sex, as male is the standard.
In my state, legal sex is changed by downloading a short form, filling it out, getting it notarized, and mailing it in. No transition is required. Nothing else is required.
English

@AndInTheEnd2 I’m generallly against selfID when it comes to legal gender/sex marker changes. I personally think SelfID was great for social reasons, not for legal conundrums
English

@JoEllisReally Self ID makes that slope slippery, not in a logical fallacy way, but a real way.
Contemplating all or nothing can help clarify issues, though.
English

@AndInTheEnd2 I think there’s a happy medium to be had. Just like with other things. Background checks, punishing those that violate trust and break a law, etc. All or nothing can’t be the answer
English

@Logikahh @JoEllisReally Not bad faith, not disingenuous. It's straightforward to you, but not to me. You're already assuming the worst of me, so I won't bother having a conversation with you.
English

@AndInTheEnd2 @JoEllisReally My point is rather straight forward. If you're asking that question I already assume you're coming from a bad faith and disingenuous approach.
English

@FredSargeant @AndInTheEnd2 It’s not a joke about victims silly goose
English

It has come to my attention that @FredSargeant doesn't like my joke today. That's ok. Trans people bomb too.
Fred Sargeant 🏳️🌈 🟦@FredSargeant
@JoEllisReally is a trans comedian. Here's his joke today. "Sometimes I mix my hormones with Diet Coke. I call it the trans shooter." Do you think his joke is funny? (Screencap of the joke in Comments)
English

@FredSargeant @JoEllisReally Oh, I didn't think of the victims.
English

@AndInTheEnd2 @JoEllisReally Not to the victims families and others there, as well as anyone with an adult sense of humor
English

@Logikahh @JoEllisReally How is sex-segregated public toilets like gun control?
English

@JoEllisReally It's kinda funny how the right are pushing the bans yet you think they find this correlates to the same concept as gun control. Guess some on the right only care for their principles when it's convenient.

I called The Trevor Project b/c that's what LGBT influencers told me to do. They were nice at first, but when I started talking about what was actually wrong, the hormones, the blockers, my depression, they got very quiet & then they hung up on me, a suicidal child @JonniSkinner
English

@JoEllisReally Absolutely right. I love the video, too.
I flew into DCA the other day and thought of you and the gusts you've endured in the past couple of years or so. Keep navigating this as gracefully as you have been, though certainly the experience is not graceful.
English

Flying a Black Hawk over the Virginia Beach oceanfront, before my life took a different course. Before the trans military ban, before the viral conspiracy. Before all the crosswinds pushed me to a new heading.
Flying taught me that you don’t control the wind, only how you prepare and react to it.
Some chapters end, but the lessons stay with you.

I listened to the discussion and though it had a little more nuance than usual, it is essentially the same argument that trans women are women and therefore are athletically part of the "woman umbrella" and have a place in women's (elite) athletics. Dr. Harper uses the false equivalence that because there are individual advantages among female athletes that any residual advantage for testosterone-suppressed trans women is just an artifact of that. It's also argued that there are not many trans women in women's elite athletics, anyway, so why does it matter.
In the argument that since trans women are women that they belong in the women's division, the well-documented anatomical and physiological athletic advantages, even on suppressed testosterone, are dismissed. We forget that women, anatomically and physiologically, are not testosterone-suppressed males. In the case of full puberty suppression, we are also not sexually immature males. In females, puberty creates sex-specific skeletal changes that make us slower runners and lack of male-level virilization is only one piece of the picture.
There is old societal subtext that women are lesser or failed men. We are the boy plus eyelashes and a bow in the hair. We are not. We are our own thing. (I would add that trans women are also not lesser or failed, even if they get that messaging, too, like many gay men have.)
I am a fan of coed fun leagues and fun leagues that include trans women in the women's category, but not in actual competition. I have done a lot of long-distance running and I cannot outrun an equally trained male. As a female, I'm built differently - not due to my identity or medical pathway, but my sex.
English

@AndInTheEnd2 @datadriven_tdoc I agree it is about maleness. I disagree, though, that displacement of even one natal female is the dispositive measure. I think the focus should be the importance of meaningfully preserving the category. I am not explaining it well. The discussion I linked is worth a listen.
