Making every fifth lesson routinely a 10 Minute Knowledge Quiz and 25 Minute Extended Writing Task. Thanks to @kenradical for making me rethink KS3 and keeping knowledge at the forefront #historyteacher

Still not finished, not sure it ever will be but we’ve made a lot of progress in developing our KS3 curriculum. Connected second-order concepts, guidance on outcomes and key vocabulary all identified for students, parents and staff to be aware of. #historyteacher

Started to chip away at condensing our KS3 KO’s/Topic sheets. These Y7 examples provide one point of reference for foundational chronology, terminology, key figures and the content journey students will be embarking on. #historyteacher

📘 Highly recommend the book ‘Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI)’ by Hollingsworth, and Ybarra. The ‘TAPPLE’ acronym they introduce is ingenious for memorising their steps for Checking for Understanding. Take a look at this visual breakdown...

I've recently seen discussion about introductory sessions for Y7. It's something we've chosen to do in September but want to use it to set high academic expectations. It's a 4 lesson intro to historical skills done through a study of black British history. cutt.ly/FmmEpsA

Back at it and back trying to solve homework at KS3. We wanted something meaningful, easy to set and rooted in historical skills = the ‘All Four One’ homework. One glued in sheet, 4 Individual tasks that can be set stand alone/together, from reading to source work.#historyteacher

@YorkClio So very sad to read this. I was very fortunate to learn so much from Helen and will always be grateful for the wonderful HA Fellowship she ran. A true inspiration.

For those who knew and loved my inspirational friend and colleague, Helen Snelson, it is my sad job to tell you that she died yesterday afternoon. I know how much she meant to so many of you and she was so grateful for your support and love these last few months.

Coaching should not *just* be about teachers learning how to execute techniques but about supporting teachers to develop their *judgement* too i.e. deploying techniques appropriately to meet goals. Therefore, we need to know about mental models. Why?
