In her own words: “I very simply do not have the one thing that political campaigns unfortunately require today: the financial resources.” This clears the path for Graham Platner — the leading Democrat in the primary — to become the nominee against Susan Collins. Think about this: The Democratic Party is rallying behind a guy who had a Nazi-associated tattoo (a skull-and-crossbones design known as the Totenkopf, a major SS symbol used by Hitler’s forces) on his chest. He got it in 2007 as a young Marine, later covered it up after it blew up. Platner apologized, said he didn’t know the Nazi connection at the time, and insists he’s staying in the race.
