At the Women’s Movement Press Conference, @uwonet joined partners in calling for gender equity, democratic accountability, and ethical leadership as the 12th Parliament of Uganda organizes its leadership structures. “We are seeking parity, equity, and development. One person’s mistake should not be used against 50% of the population,” noted Rita Aciro, ED @uwonet. Over the years, women leaders have established a standard of leadership that continues to shape expectations for future women leaders. Article 33(4) of the Constitution guarantees women equal opportunities in political, economic, and social life. The Women’s Movement stands united in advancing inclusive and accountable governance. #WomenLeadershipUG @ccgea1 @FOWODE_UGANDA @SarahBireete @patriciamunabi @RitaAciro @WDNUganda @PerryAritua @WinnieKiiza

This evening, I received a message from Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the President of the Confederation of African Football, expressing his appreciation for Uganda's role in hosting CHAN 24. This message was delivered by Rt. Hon. Anita Among. I want to thank the Local Organizing Committee, as well as the Ministry of Education and Sports, led by Maama Janet, and everyone who contributed to the successful hosting of the tournament. Additionally, I thank the supporters who came out in large numbers to watch the matches.

Yesterday, UWONET had the honor of hosting the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Uganda. Over the past four years, the Embassy’s support in Kamuli and Namutumba Districts has reached and impacted the lives of over 25,000 people. Through this partnership, we have provided legal & psychosocial support to close to 5,000 walk-in clients, offered temporary shelter to over 500 survivors of Gender Based Violence, and reached around 8,000 people through our toll-free online services. These efforts have not only safeguarded lives but also empowered women and girls, restoring their dignity and ensuring their voices are heard. We are grateful to all stakeholders, including the District Local Government, Uganda Police, Judiciary, cultural and religious leaders, and the community at large. We also deeply value our partnership with the Embassy, and look forward to continued collaboration. #WPS #GEWE

Ms. Victoria from the Busoga region appreciated @uwonet for continuously empowering women leaders at all levels through mentorship, workshops and trainings. She shared that this was her first time joining a webinar made possible by @JulianNaluwooza and highlighted how such platforms build confidence and equip women to mentor and inspire others to join political leadership like she has always supported young women in her community. #WomenLeadUG #NationalWomensManifesto @DCAUganda @asf_eastafrica @NLinUganda @ADCinUganda @Dr_KatjaK @barefootlaw_org @PenalReformInt @EUinUG @giz_gmbh @Amref_Uganda @medicamondiale @UWOPA @AgwangJesca @RitaAciro @PerryAritua @WereJuliet @akitengisabella @LaspnetUganda @UHRC_UGANDA @IrlEmbUganda @NorrisLindah @UKinUganda @H3000EastAfrica @unwomenuganda @Parliament_Ug @UNWomenUganda @NorrisLindah @FrenchEmbassyUg @kirabomarion2 @KvinnaKvinnaINT @JulianNaluwooza @hildakevin1 @WDNUganda @CharityKalebbo @susan_achen @Kingroland95

Our Executive Director @RitaAciro today, joined young mothers in Namutumba District as they graduated after completing vocational skills training in motor vehicle repair and mechanics—an uncommon yet powerful path for girls. In her remarks, she encouraged the girls to speak up, stay resilient, and never let anyone discourage them on their journey to economic independence. She reminded them that their background does not define their future, and urged them to draw lessons from the past, but boldly move forward. These determined young mothers are rewriting their stories—armed with skills, confidence, and a commitment to create better lives for themselves and their children. @Mglsd_UG @ASF_NGO @EUinUG #SkillingGirls #EconomicEmpowerment #YoungMothers @asf_eastafrica @NLinUganda @Dr_KatjaK @barefootlaw_org @PenalReformInt @DCAUganda @UWOPA @KigoziMaggie @PerryAritua @Parliament_Ug @FrenchEmbassyUg @flaviakalule @ElliotOrizaarwa @momocherise @AKasingye @KvinnaKvinnaINT @JulianNaluwooza @AgwangJesca @hildakevin1 @WDNUganda @ccgea1 @susan_achen @videaug1 @Kingroland95

During the #CEDAW2024 engagement, Dr. @BrendaAkia of @CedawUn expressed heartfelt gratitude to @RitaAciro ED of @uwonet for the unwavering support towards her global leadership journey. She also acknowledged organisations like @FIDA_Uganda its members, the CEO @AdrikoLillian @elayzabeth @AAssimwe & many more women leaders for their mentorship, solidarity, and belief in her—especially during challenging moments leading up to her appointment. It was an insightful session! @uwonet My key takeaway is that we must invest in gender-inclusive climate solutions for #climatejustice
Uganda Women's Network@uwonet

We've just concluded an enriching capacity-building program on climate justice and gender programming, a critical step in advancing #GEWE. Through this initiative, our members and allies are better equipped to challenge the intersecting inequalities that exacerbate the impacts of climate change on women and marginalized communities. @giz_uganda @ADCinUganda @KvinnaKvinnaINT @medicamondiale @OxfaminUganda
