So 60 years after the church you think they already had accumulated errors? Pretty sure your church doesn’t look like the one St. Justin Martyr lays out in 1st Apologies. Additionally, the earliest churches we have discovered today (3rd century) are covered in icons. Lastly the earliest full liturgies we have include prayers to the saints

The Protestant claim is not that the Church died, but that doctrinal errors accumulated over the centuries. What non-Protestant traditions call doctrinal development, we call doctrinal accretion.

Okay I hadnt been paying attention to this post but its entirely possible in my mind that Fr Stephen is wrong. However I dont see calling him a liar or saying he's blaspheming the Scriptures is the best response 😅 I appreciate the constructive pushback in the replies and always welcome it. But creating more unnecessary division and hatred over an error like this is far more pleasing to the devil than making an error on the meaning of a word like this in Scripture.

I can explicitly see the Orthodox Church from 2nd century to current day. Protestants can’t say the same about their church.

Unfortunately, his statement falls flat on its face as the councils themselves feel comfortable limiting the influence of the Patriarch of Rome and at times, disciplining him if he does not comply. Even Western bishops after the schism feel comfortable voting that an Ecumenical Council is over the Pope and can discipline him (see Council of Constance).

Every time I'm tempted by Eastern Orthodoxy, I look at the Council of Florence and all of my concerns immediately go away
