@AstroLefty

I like astronomy, math, physics, and socialism. Anarchist-leaning but mostly just dumb online. Male property of @books_tea_yarn. He/Him.

AOC will look at this and unironically declare that Elon is one of the stupidest people alive and not an engineer

You did it, activists! Instead of the land being remediated and converted into a structure that contributes massively to the tax base of a shrinking city, the site will remain a polluted and mostly-empty gravel lot that stages disused construction vehicles!

Today, the City has rejected the permit application for the data center proposed at 3560 E. 55th St. in the Slavic Village neighborhood.

@TheModerateCase Everyone is aware of this dipshit. Some of us would rather have kids eat than somebody making 100x more than us get an extra tax break though.

The uncomfortable reality is that for many workers the transition wouldn’t be from $7 an hour to $15 an hour. It would be from $7 an hour to unemployed. A wage law cannot magically double someone’s productivity or the value their labor creates. If a position only generates enough value to justify a lower wage, many employers respond by: • Cutting jobs • Reducing hours • Automating tasks • Refusing to hire inexperienced workers • Increasing workloads on remaining employees So the workers who keep their jobs often end up doing the work of the eliminated positions while entry level workers lose the opportunity entirely. Paying market wages is not disrespect. The disrespectful position is pretending politicians can override supply, demand, productivity, and business reality without consequences for the very people they claim to help.

They're literally running back the anti-nuclear playbook. That set us back a half-century in nuclear power. Imagine what would happen if we set back AI research by a half-century... 中国获胜/胜利属于中国
Garry Tan@garrytan

Sanders and AOC introduced a bill to pause ALL AI data center construction. 300+ local bills filed. Half of planned 2026 data centers facing delays or cancellation. Each one brings billions to local economies. The people who say they want American jobs are trying to block the biggest job creation engine since the interstate highway system.

@mldiffley The only people I know who hated high school were ugly people and those with no confidence. Bullying? That only happens to people who care what others think and can’t stand up for themselves. High school was easy if you weren’t weak and gay

@jappleby Yeah, AI bros always delude themselves because by definition it cannot ever get to actually matching reality but it has definitely improved from only ever fooling boomers to now just fooling anybody not paying much attention or a little gullible.

Man, I’m really worried about consumers. Not everyone’s tech savvy enough to know this ad is completely AI, and they’re not actually showing the product they’re selling. AI ads are going to really take advantage of people.

@qorndawg @exp3309 @dimenpsyonal You need to include everyone because cycling/walking being an option in European nations and not America is an exact reason why Americans would spend more. If you can't understand this concept I genuinely don't think you can have this conversation.

@AstroLefty @exp3309 @dimenpsyonal If we're discussing commuting by car and the cost of doing so in each region, why would I include people who cycle to work in the stats? Apples to apples, Americans commute slightly further on average, but spend a lot more on gas because their cars are wildly inefficient.

@fall3nPhD @vanillaopinions I think that she is a bit better and more vocal on those things than Bernie is so I am hopeful that any AOC campaign would also be better but sometimes campaigns suck more than the candidates so idk.

@fall3nPhD @vanillaopinions Yeah probably. Bernie tried to run on a more or less only economic campaign and that did well but I can attest that my experience campaigning for him in the south was that people wanted him (or really anybody) to actually talk about social issues too, so hopefully she does that.

@ettingermentum At some point we need to run generic democrat because they seem to always do way better in the polls than the candidate that is chosen
