If you give the pitcher the ball that skims the zone on both sides the strike zone is no longer 17 inches wide, it is effectively 19.9 inches wide.

@dadknowsball @tylermilliken_ And he's shown regression in fielding and stolen bases. His stretching singles to doubles will regress, as will triples. He constantly makes boneheaded plays, like getting picked off at first. His instincts for stealing are awful (relies solely on speed.)

@AustinOfTheMark @tylermilliken_ That’s based on 8 games this season. Look at the last three seasons: 121, 132, 114. Look at the singles stretched into doubles, the stolen bases, the triples, etc. There’s more than what the analytics show.

Will it work? Who knows. I’m just happy to see Cora finally try something different. The quality of Yoshida’s ABs is something this team is severely lacking.
Story was always too volatile to be slotted into the #2 spot and we’ve seen the worst of him so far in 2026. Just can’t sit on your hands any longer.

Masataka Yoshida needs to be playing every single day in some capacity. I get rotating guys in and out, keeping them fresh, but his ABs need to be a higher priority.
There's a greater argument for him to lead off than there is him being a part-time player.
