@DJSnM Blue's communication on all of this has been pretty disappointing. No one expects them to share everything but more than 24 hours for even a basic statement and still lacking core points is sad.

We're still in a situation where we don't know whether the GS2 stage is in orbit, Space Force have given orbital elements for only one object at this time. Whether they were able to deorbit the upper stage or not tells us a lot about the state of the spacecraft after the second, incomplete, burn.

@Alexphysics13 Not to mention if that occurs will Axiom even survive until 2030? they're already in significant financial strain

From the report’s findings: “Based on our analysis, if Axiom experiences design and testing delays in line with the historical average for recent space flight programs, the Artemis and ISS demonstrations may not occur until 2031.”
NASA Office of Inspector General@NASAOIG

After nearly two decades, NASA's next-generation spacesuits remain incomplete. Today, the Agency continues to face delays and is reliant on Axiom Space to develop both the Artemis lunar suits and updated ISS suits. Read our new report to learn more: go.nasa.gov/4cGjdRT

@DJSnM @johnnie The iphone will sometimes use the lidar to enhance autofocus, yeah? I feel like shooting through a window sometimes gets screwed up because of that as well.

I haven’t worked at Apple in 6 months and the multi lens switching to hit focus on this still gives me anxiety. (It starts Macro on the Super Wide lens because the bottom of the window is in focus then realizes it needs to hop to the Tele.)
Reid Wiseman@astro_reid

Only one chance in this lifetime… Like watching sunset at the beach from the most foreign seat in the cosmos, I couldn’t resist a cell phone video of Earthset. You can hear the shutter on the Nikon as @Astro_Christina is hammering away on 3-shot brackets and capturing those exceptional Earthset photos through the 400mm lens. @AstroVicGlover was in window 3 watching with @Astro_Jeremy next to him. I could barely see the Moon through the docking hatch window but the iPhone was the perfect size to catch the view…this is uncropped, uncut with 8x zoom which is quite comparable to the view of the human eye. Enjoy.

@peterrhague I disagree with your first point but agree with the second. Going for reuse from the start didn't harm the 2nd stage engineering, they're a big company with teams for both. However yes, going hydrolox absolutely means more teething issues.

The scenario of a successful booster recovery but not a successful payload delivery is to be expected when a rocket goes for reusability from day 1. SpaceX spent a while delivering customer payloads - and had some failures - before developing reuse. Their second stage was mature by the time they were landing boosters. Also, Blue Origin have picked hard mode for their upper stage using hydrolox.

@planet4589 @DJSnM So does this mean there was at least some second burn but it ended early? Or does it mean the first burn underperformed?

A second orbit dataset from SpaceForce for the BlueBird-7 sat shows it in a 265 x 485 km x 43.0 deg orbit, indicating that the upper stage delivered about 1000 m/s, mostly changing orbital inclination. This is about half the dV that would have been needed for the target orbit

NG-3 Update: We have confirmed payload separation. AST SpaceMobile has confirmed the satellite has powered on. The payload was placed into an off-nominal orbit. We are currently assessing and will update when we have more detailed information.

@retail_mourinho Space is hard. I have to assume that $ASTS's business plan allows for some fraction of launch failures. I am not a money guy, far from it, but I would caution against overreaction to a single failure.

Space expert Jonathan is not optimistic $ASTS This would be very bad for the stock and I would adjust my current short-term price target ($130) for $ASTS. Let‘s wait for the official statement. -RM

@blueorigin @AST_SpaceMobile To be clear, I am not optimistic. But it's prudent to wait for the final word.
