Diabetes care in Nigeria is beyond appalling. Went with my mom to one of her appointments months after she was diagnosed and the 'specialist' had never once done an hba1c. Omo na there I know say we don enter one chance.

Yesterday my dad called me complaining of debilitating nasal symptoms while in Uyo. My Nigerian banking apps or cards weren't working from abroad so I paid for a diaspora health voucher from Wellahealth. A doctor prescribed his treatment using our erx app.

My daughter was saying how she lost years of her childhood because I was going to school and my brain wanted to scatter. The opportunity cost of prioritizing school & work to start a whole new career as an immigrant was time with her and that's a fact. Did I want to hear it tho?

In a 2020 paper, @BBanigbe and colleagues found 23% of husbands of pregnant women in Benue had hypertension. Only 7% of them knew their status. We need multilayered strategies to optimally prevent and treat hypertension in many African communities. journals.plos.org/plosone/articl…
