@GeoffGrammer @jkmeeks80 It's a great sound byte. It's a very broken system, that seems to have only gotten worse with conference realignment and these new mega p4 conferences. I'm convinced the committee today would seriously consider leaving out those Butler teams that went to back to back Nattys.

I should clip that part of the press conference and share just that because he articulates the current "numbers" problem far better than I have been, unfortunately. And he's an analytics guy who knows/loves the "numbers", just knows there's no overcoming them in this current set up of college basketball for anyone not in those power conferences. The math just doesn't math.

I assure you, Jerrod's comments here are not ones that aren't shared by every single other coach in the Mountain West/new Pac-12. It's not a game that the current Selection Committee method makes sustainable for teams (or coaches) outside the power conferences.

@GeoffGrammer @jkmeeks80 I agree with what St. Joe's coach said in the presser after the NIT game. You saw SEC teams last year get into the tourney going 6-12 in conference, those teams are at best even with a high mid-major team when they meet, but the analytics will never say that. It has to be fixed.

UNM has done fine with NIL. No question there. But they are on a three-year stretch of really good players (that they haven't kept, mind you), really good teams, three straight 26-win seasons, a league title, a league tournament title and now an NIT final four... and they're not even sniffing the 8/9 game. 11 seed and out of tourney had they not won the MW tourney two years ago, a 10 seed as the Mountain West champion last year, no NCAA this year. Coaches will continue to leave if not even decent NIL can save them from not having a chance at getting a top 8 seed in the tournament, or maybe not even making it without winning your conference tourney. It's career suicide to just bank on having great fans at a USU or a UNM but not having a chance at the Big Dance like lesser coaches in bigger programs have.

@Tacoeldosscotty @B_Rog505 The average Net ranking of teams in the new PAC12 over the last 5 seasons: Gonzaga: 7.2 SDSU: 32.8 Utah St: 37.8 Boise St: 42.4 CSU: 59.0 Wazzu: 76.2 That isn't a 2-3 bid league on average. That is a 3-4 on average w/ 5 bid years sprinkled in there, for a 9 team league.

If Utah State was a 5 or 6 seed like they probably should have been, they are headed to the Sweet 16 & maybe even Elite 8. They got a tough draw and were way better than it, as has been typical of MW teams over the years. Looking forward to new PAC12 where it is a top 5 MBB conf.

@DMAC_LA Agreed but Notre Dame appears to still get loyal fan support. No one in the greater LA area seems to give a damn about UCLA basketball. Their fan support has been pitiful over the years, LA fans can be very fickle about college athletics unfortunately

No one loves UCLA more than me. I'm a proud alum. But the Bruins are a relic of the past. They haven't won a National Championship in 30+ years. They're the Notre Dame of College Basketball. Every now and then you think they're back, but they're not.
