As the first reanalysis data become available, I think I can say with a fairly high degree of confidence that the March 2026 heatwave will go down as the most anomalously extreme heat event ever observed at any time of year in the southwestern U.S.

That is the type of scientist who most pushes climate change scare stories. At the same time, he and other scientists fly over the place to talk about how other people should reduce their carbon footprint.

Homeopathy is based on the assumption that the entire modern scientific community, 90% of all doctors, and 28 international scientific organisations are completely wrong about this form of treatment, but that a group of anti-science quacks has got it all exactly right.

"transitioning away" - to what? Inconsistent wind and solar? Clearly not nuclear energy since the left has been busy dismantling and blocking that. I want to be less reliant on fossil fuels, but for now it is what we have. Virtue signaling on climate change does nothing to solve the issue. Crippling our economies when there is China, India, and many other countries who dwarf our use and will not slow down is suicidal empathy with no benefit to the planet. @terrychristian will post this and then will take flights that mean he uses well over the average per capita fossil fuels for his country.

@BadJournalism @terrychristian An increase in oil prices is bad because it impacts every aspect of our daily lives, because we built a system based on oil. Transitioning away from fossil fuels would remove that issue. This isn’t inconsistent.

We are a big country, there are lots of records. In February of 2021, many low temperatures were broken - some by 10 and not 5 degrees: Dallas TX - broken by 9 °F Austin TX - broken by 10 °F Houston TX - broken by 5 °F There is so much chicken little reporting around climate change.

The current heatwave in the US Southwest is utterly destroying many records for this time of year. Phoenix, Arizona has ~90 years of daily temperature data, and yet recent temperatures beat the previous March record by 5 °F (2.8 °C), and would actually tie the record for April.

The problem is the (justified) loss of trust. It is not just how public health officials, doctors, scientists, and the press acted during COVID - it is their unwillingness to face up to what was done and explain how it will be corrected going forward. The other issue is that you have scientists saying that men can get pregnant and also you should trust them on other scientific questions. People who are shouting about trusting science (like @simonmaechling) are silent on these issues. You will not see him complaining about "sex assigned at birth" being used by scientists. Rebuilding trust requires, first and foremost, scientists acting in trustworthy ways.

One of the problems is too many people misapplying their frustration about COVID to unrelated issues. You can oppose lockdowns, for example, and vaccinate your kids against measles.

The problem isn’t questioning science. It’s ignoring the answer. At that point, it’s not skepticism. It’s willful ignorance.

@MrMatthewTodd We are only 14 years away from being in the 2040s, so we will be able to see for ourselves that this is BS. That will not matter, of course. We have been getting warnings about the world ending for a very long time.

The frustration I feel that the idiots in the media are not acting like this is the emergency it is, is often overwhelming. Our society says it is all about children and their futures - but it ignores the biggest threat they face. Behaves like it’s not happening. Madness.
