@BankCambridge @naturetrektours Hopefully.... We're heading out shortly to look for them today... They've been harder here recently because of construction works, (a motorway and a train line), but they are around so fingers crossed! 🤞

Today on the @naturetrektours Wild Sichuan trip we spent the morning travelling to the Tibetan plains around Zoige. With sub-zero temperatures and snow falling, mammals were on show well, hunting the pika on the plains to varying degrees of success... This Tibetan Fox aced it.

I was meeted & greeted by this freshly emerged (and not fully coloured up) Purple Emperor when I arrived in Savernake Forest at 12.30, feeding on something nasty. I went on to count 13 males & one female (being courted) along 3 Oak Hills Drive, = very good.

Wiseman et al. report that the rapid neurodegeneration observed in MSA is driven by toxic α-synuclein fibrils invading neuronal nuclei, leading to cell death. They propose redefining MSA as a neuronal nuclear and oligodendroglial α-synucleinopathy. tinyurl.com/s9mpyckk

TSPO PET is used to measure inflammation in dementia, but its cellular basis is unclear. Using PET imaging and post-mortem brain tissue, Wijesinghe et al. show that microglia are the key immune cells driving TSPO PET signal changes. tinyurl.com/mwpxdcc6

Never forget - the UK, Canada, and most of Europe chose Ukraine over the USA yesterday. Ukraine is their problem now and enjoy the tariffs.

@ProfRobHoward A timely letter. Amyloid-removal pseudo-atrophy is an interesting suggestion but, as you say, doesn’t account for observed degree of atrophy. Indeed, amyloid-beta is not the only constituent of these plaques. Further post-mortem neuropathological studies are clearly needed.

Just published - our letter in The Lancet Neurology, again asking for open and transparent reporting of data around accelerated brain volume loss with use of amyloid antibodies and for this to be taken seriously until we know more about long-term consequences.

@alehasnaat_ @PolitlcsUK Suicide was decriminalised in 1961 by the Suicide Act 1961. So, I guess it is “allowed in the U.K. now” but that’s not anything to do with the Assisted Dying Bill.

I took this photo today and thought I was looking at a Siskin, but I’ve had two people who saw the photo tell me they think it could be Serin. I am sure it must be a Siskin but just for extra assurance so I can sleep tonight, can anyone verify for certain?!
