@PokerPolitics We had a real chance in 2020 to create movement towards actually reforming American policing, an institution in desperate need of it, and leftist defund the police maximalists squandered it. That's something that they aren't made to answer for near enough.

This is why we can't have nice things. There's an argument for abolishing ICE that you can make that is mainstream and can win over normie voters. But when you veer off into "and also, abolish DHS as a whole", you lose all of them.
They never know when to stop.

Whatever word you want to use, what we need to get to is the end result: ICE should not exist as it exists. And DHS should not exist as it exists. There’s no reason for DHS to exist. Immigration is a civil enforcement matter. It is not criminal. And that’s what people keep not understanding. It is a civil enforcement matter. It used to be handled out of the Department of Justice as a civil matter. Now it’s been criminalized. It’s been put into this massive agency that was created after 9/11 that should not be there. It is completely unaccountable and sprawling.

Sean Trende is exactly right. And I wouldn't *just* say Platner's an "angry narcissist," though that's true. He's also a dysregulated narcissist. These people aren't just unpredictable, they lash out. Get Bernie up there to hold his hand and tell him he's a hero or something.

You get a lot of "well that's just Matt being Matt" takes from Stoller's fellow travelers but he is paid money by various progressive funders to do a job that seems to consist primarily of posting and is echoed in these takes by various other top factional figures.
