"The gunman who killed 22 people in the worst mass shooting in Canadian history may have been an informant or agent for the national police force, sources say." Was this a subject of the Inquiry? #RCMP dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8…

Question for good-at-tech Twitter: my iPhone just started making a clicking noise when I hit the home button and my audio is all distorted, all of a sudden Anybody know what to do that doesn’t involve taking it apart?

@JAlainDB @CraigBaird I wondered that too. I wonder if he means that some matter was displaced - pushed out sideways. Then there is less mass because there’s less matter in that area.

@CraigBaird Very interesting! Just confused about one detail - why would compressed rocks have less mass?

Did you know that if you are near Hudson Bay, you actually weigh less than if you were somewhere else in the world? The Hudson Bay gravitational anomaly is about -0.005%. So if you are 150 pounds elsewhere, you will weigh 149.9925 pounds there. Let's learn why that is! Part of the reason is that thousands of years ago, Canada was covered by the Laurentide Ice Sheet. This massive ice sheet covered millions of square kilometres and was 3.7 kilometres thick at Hudson Bay. It weighed so much it compressed the ground by hundreds of feet. The area of Hudson Bay is surrounded by the Canadian Shield, and that rock was compressed by the ice sheet. While the rest of present-day Canada's ground rebounded over the centuries, those compressed rocks have taken much longer, about 12 millimetres per year. With the mass of the rocks decreased due to the compression, the gravity is also decreased. This is only part of the reason gravity is lower at Hudson Bay as the compressed rock accounts for 25 to 45% of the gravity anomaly. The remaining amount is likely caused by what is going on below the earth's surface. Magma rising and falling creates convection currents, which drag down continental plates, decreasing the mass of the area. This gravity anomaly won't last forever. In about 5,000 years, the 650-foot bounce back will be finished around Hudson Bay. Alright, tweeple, I am back on the bus heading from Portland to Boston Logan Airport after a great AERE conference (sorry to leave a bit early). Can't really do much work on a moving bus, so ask me (almost) anything to make the drive go faster. #ama

@moirarvane The artifacts left behind by loved ones are almost as complex as the lives they lived. Some represent the values of the owner; others mere necessities of life. When my father died 27 years, I was urged/coerced to take his golf clubs. I hate golf, but have yet to part with them.

@moirarvane So sorry to hear this Moira. I don’t know your father but judging from the comments it seems you inherited a lot of his traits. I hope he finds comfort in his final time with his family around him.

It absolutely breaks my heart to share with you all that my dad has been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. While we are all devastated, he has been adamant that no one should feel sorry for him because he lived a good life and all his dreams came true.
