Despite severely inadequate security conditions for voting across much of Ethiopia, the government is moving forward with plans to hold elections in June 2026. Civilians continue to face constant threats from ground clashes and drone strikes. Normal political and social life has been significantly disrupted, millions have been displaced, and essential services remain weakened. Additionally, politicians, journalists, and civil society actors are being detained, while opposition groups are increasingly unable to operate openly. Despite these conditions, Ethiopia is pushing ahead with the electoral process. Meanwhile, in Somalia, although security conditions have reached their best level since 2011, political actors and certain warlords continue to block the transition to a “one person, one vote” electoral system that would reflect the direct will of the people. Despite ongoing debates and political rhetoric, the lack of concrete steps toward inclusive elections even in a relatively more secure environment remains striking.

The Ethiopian government has backing of Amhara & Tigray entities. They want to fully control the gold mines near Shire. They also want to conduct a regime change in Eritrea. UAE/Israel fully back this. Ethiopia will be rewarded Assab. Port Sudan will then be reachable for RSF…

It feels like we're just days away from a major war erupting in the Horn of Africa. With the US and EU having their priorities elsewhere, China can't be bothered, the AU powerless, and the UAE actively fanning the flames there seems to be no one able or willing to stop it.

The recent assertion by Abiy Ahmed that “the security and stability of the Horn of Africa depend on Ethiopia having access to the sea” is both alarming and legally unsound. Ethiopia is not the only landlocked country in Africa ,and no nation acquires maritime entitlement by pressure or political rhetoric. The Red Sea coastline and its ports belong to the sovereign state of Eritrea.Regional stability is built on respect for sovereignty, international law, and peaceful cooperation ,not on claims that risk undermining territorial integrity. #RedSea #HornOfAfrica @WGebray83131 @AwetGW @Nakfa23 @hawelti @hadnetkeleta @EriPrism @GhideonMusa @PNetabay @ERMedia91 @HagerMetkel @shabait @AmbStesfamariam @EmbassyEritrea @SultanMSied1 @MicaelGoitom @NationalEr_Int @Sharronyemane @Eritrea19911 @PMEthiopia @COP28_UAE @AsmaraEritrea1 @AmbassadorEstif @FikreJesus @TravelToEritrea @berhanetesfaz1 @Eritrea19911 @DeutscheEritrea @ancient_eritrea @eritrean_post @qana_meror @shabait @andemaria2 @GualAbaMitin

For the past few years, I have been questioning why Abiy has continued investing heavily in luxury resorts while the country faces so many urgent priorities. Even after their completion, these resorts have reportedly failed to attract sufficient tourists, to the extent that they struggle to cover their own operating costs. What is even more puzzling is that most of these resorts were said to be accessible only with permission from the Prime Minister’s Office. That level of restriction raises legitimate questions about their intended purpose. Recent revelations surrounding the so-called “Epstein files” may shed some light on the mystery surrounding these resorts. It is known that some of the foreign guests who frequented Abiy’s resorts were wealthy and powerful individuals from the United Arab Emirates. One prominent Emirati figure, DP World CEO Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, who reportedly resigned following links to the Epstein scandal, is said to have made frequent trips to Ethiopia and stayed at these properties. Beyond strategic interests in the Horn of Africa, including ambitions related to port access, it is reasonable to ask whether there were additional motives behind these visits. What activities took place during stays at these remote and highly restricted resorts? Reports suggest that when certain Emirati guests were present, no other visitors, not even Ethiopian ministers, were permitted to stay. Within Ethiopian politico-military and business circles, there have been numerous rumors and allegations about what may have transpired at these locations. While rumors alone are not evidence, the combination of secrecy, restricted access, and high-profile foreign visitors warrants careful scrutiny. I urge serious journalists and independent investigators to examine this matter thoroughly and transparently.

While Ethiopia provides 🇪🇹 a rear base for the RSF fighting Sudan 🇸🇩, Khartoum, for its part, provides a rear base for the Tigrayan rebels fighting Addis Ababa. The Tigray People Liberation Forces Army 70 is based in Al Fao (located by @Dinlas3), fought in the battle of Khartoum and is training Tigrean recruits to launch an offensive on Welkait, a disputed region in north-western Ethiopia, between Amhara and Tigray. This force could be composed of more than 5 000 men ready to attack Ethiopia. -> The relationship between Sudan and Ethiopia cannot be understood without knowing about these two bases that are acting as a destabilization mean from abroad...

TPLF’s open letter to @_AfricanUnion invokes CoHA to safeguard peace in Tigray—yet it implicitly asserts continued TPLF primacy over the region. No single political organization, particularly TPLF, can claim exclusive representation of #Tigray. CoHA ended a devastating war and aimed to restore constitutional order—not to entrench one group as the sole or permanent political authority in Tigray. AU, @USEmbassyAddis, @EUinEthiopia & other international partners must prioritize: protecting civilians, facilitating safe returns for IDPs, restoring unlawfully annexed territories, normalizing institutions, and fostering genuine political pluralism in Tigray—rather than re-legitimizing TPLF monopoly as the sole actor. TPLF is a burden on Tigray’s recovery rather than an asset to its future!
