None of these things should be function or expenditure of government. Small as possible, minimally invasive. Standardization of measures, national defense, and protection of (not attacks upon) constitutional freedoms as interpreted in the most generous light to any citizen. We lost the path 100+ years ago. The FBI should never have existed or been funded (nor the ATF, DoE, IRS, etc ) The Fed is there to defend against blatant internal tyranny/foreign threats, set baselines; and moderate disputes between states while ensuring the core freedoms afforded by the Constitution are unconditionally upheld. That's it. Pure and simple. You want government; or beurocratic parenthood? "Deciding how the money should be spent." They shouldn't have authority to 1. Take most of that money in the first place, or 2. Spend it beyond critical necessity in support of outlined responsibilities above. ^ Bunch of brainwashed, self-impressed liberal midwits that can't fathom personal responsibility or independence vs cowering behind ever-bloated "government" while suckling everyone dry with the most wasteful, poorly implemented plans and zero efficiency/value incentive. Hard concept to grasp when you clearly reason on emotion and prima-fascia interpretations of unreliably spoon-fed rage-bait... But the federal government has no business funding children's *anything* research. If the money exists to support that, then too much taxation exists; because those funds should not be available to the Fed to spend, debate, or waste in the first place. Dying kids is big sad, it's an issue of national interest - but we live in a capitalist society. This research, because it's *so* morally absolute in importance - should be funded either by pharma corps through generosity, by way of tax offsets, or because the market creates financial incentives to solve these fringe, outlying cases with profitable solutions - R&D factored in. Genuinely, you think a pleothera of "elected" compromised-out-of-the-box "representatives" that frequently 10x increase their personal wealth throughout their eventual term - you think these people care about or represent *you* - or are otherwise impartial arbitrators of what's "good" for the country at large? The federal government is not your mother. It's merely a backstop of absolute protections to prevent tyranny of, settle disputes between, and coordinate foreign defense for: the fucking States. Light, lean, and not a dollar larger than it has to be - this has been lost somehow to moronic/masochistic desire to be governed harder by people that clearly hate you. Wake up, gut it to its core, burn it down to nothing but foundation.

I’m at a cancer treatment center getting my 27th dose of radiation. My doctor recommends 35. @UHC refuses to pay for more than 28. I’ve fought them for weeks to get full treatment approved. This is my Hail Mary to hopefully get them to reconsider.
