@HoffmanTactical @300aacblackout Not an SW user but interesting conversation since I remember many 3D people were eagerly waiting for the main packages to become available on Linux 20+ years ago, since Windows instability was a constant headache. And seems we are still in that same square.

@Hodosam @dumbfuckingdeer Funny, on reading the original tweet I immediately thought, but what about the supercharged v8 in the sl55? And one second later I see your take. Always looking on takes on owning this engine since it's a car I'm thinking of

@oldyzach Can a thousand hours on a game be a waste of time? For sure. But we're talking about Simcity 4 here.

Under one of my posts about SimCity 4, I received a comment like this, among others. And it got me thinking. Have I really wasted my life? I have a fulfilling, fairly high-profile, and well-paying job. I travel a lot, I have a loving girlfriend, a place of my own, and I’m happy. It’s possible that if I played less, I could have learned more languages, read more books, or perhaps chosen a different path in life. And yet, I don’t regret a thing. What about you, gamers?

@nafonsopt Recently installed Linux on a laptop; was immediately reminded how nice it is when in Windows copy/pasting text between ssh window and a browser works *perfectly*. Yes I'm sure it can be made to work in Linux too but..

For anybody saying "Just use Linux", you need to realise that Linux is worse than Windows. Windows has all the bloat, and while you can have Linux without any of that you still don't have tools like Remedybg, RAD Debugger and Super Luminal. Once you have such tools, then Linux is a suitable app development environment. But _it is still trash_ because of the whole Linux model of you needing to compile everything. The fact that you cannot run an app built using a newer version of glibc is an insane decision. I shouldn't have to upgrade my whole machine in order to run something built on a newer version. I shouldn't be worried that an upgrade will break my machine. I shouldn't be forced to compile things from scratch to work on my machine. I shouldn't be forced to install N packages, I just want self contained binaries I can just download and run. I shouldn't be forced to develop with an old distro to have "max glibc compatibility". I shouldn't have to worry about X11 / Wayland / Window Managers. I shouldn't have to worry about asking the user to select a folder, display a dialog or show notifications. Linux is such a huge waste of potential, if they got their shit together they would completely obliterate Windows. I first got into Linux in 2000, and even back then there was this "it will take over Windows any time now!". It's been _26 years_! The same way I'd pay quite a lot for Windows without any bloat, I'd be willing to pay for a distro that gives me all this.

@ArmedJ0y I mean many civil conflicts seem to have started just this way, a big enough bunch of delusional fucks saying "ok we had enough, about time we go and just kill all the bad guys", and what it leads to is what you described

Easiest way to vaporized 90% of these people's wet dreams of kinetic conflict: Can you, right this second, text 3 people and have them show up to your house within 15 minutes, no questions asked? If no, you do not even have a FIRE TEAM for your larp insurgency. Let alone any logistical or local infrastructure to maintain it. Let alone whether you are mentally, physically and materially prepared to do anything. You don't even get out the gate. Half yall can't call your mom once a week.
✳️Ⓐ Armed Joy 🔫💣@ArmedJ0y

I have a full time job that only exists because it requires constant begging and tree shaking to get 15 of you motherfuckers to take 2 minutes, call a phone number, and leave a voicemail. You're not ready for a civil war. You're begging for a full remodel of your house when you can't be asked to pick your clothes off the floor. You want the hard thing now but can't keep up easy, bare fuckin minimums. Everyone in the replies getting lippy are turbo larpers and less than useless, they distract and reduce from proven strategies so they can be edgy online. Shut up, go away.

Fun fact: 75% of indies on Steam only release one game. Which is interesting... because once you ship your first game, youve already done the hardest part. The pipelines exist, connections are made, lessons are learned. A second project in theory, should be easier to produce.

There's ~3 micrograms of Uranium dissolved in 1L of seawater. It represents up to 240 kJ of fission energy if fully consumed. It only takes about 10 kJ to desalinate 1L of seawater. A desalination-reactor can fuel itself on seawater with very wide margins.

@fentasyl That is not a model issue. That is bad tool orchestration. If your “Rust agent” keeps reaching for Python to patch text files, the stack is faking autonomy, not doing engineering.

If you ask GPT-5.4-Pro to code for you in Rust, it will spend 30 minutes trying to jailbreak its environment to install the rust toolchain, then give up and use Python as a word processor.

This is a vintage Unicore Software LBA Pro card — an ISA bus add-on card from the mid-to-late 1990s (roughly 1995–1998 era). It was designed as a hardware solution to overcome the old 528 MB hard disk limit (the infamous “504 MB barrier”) that affected many 386, 486, and early Pentium-class computers with outdated BIOS. Older PC BIOSes could only handle drives up to ~504–528 MB using Cylinder-Head-Sector (CHS) addressing. Anything larger appeared truncated (e.g. a 2 GB drive would show only ~504 MB, or a 10 GB drive might show 2 GB or less, depending on the BIOS). The LBA Pro card worked by providing an option ROM (the EPROM socketed chip with the green window on your board) that loaded during boot. It: • Intercepted the BIOS INT 13h hard disk services. • Replaced the motherboard’s limited hard disk handling routines. • Enabled Logical Block Addressing (LBA) mode support. • Allowed the system to see and use the full capacity of much larger IDE/ATA hard drives (typically up to 8.4 GB or sometimes more, depending on the exact firmware version and drive).

Sega Super Scaler games. Was asked in the racers post about some of the 2.5D tech used, legit question. Designed by Yu Suzuki and his AM2 arcade division, below are some of the most popular ones. They had deluxe motion cabinets (jet cockpit, bike, car, spaceship) and lines of people formed behind, eager to play.

@dantemendes It's remarkable how there are many indie games inspired by these classics, but few of them create a feeling of speed approaching that of Out Run. Hell, even the admittedly limited C64 port of the game managed to convey some kind of velocity.

Arcade racers. Undeniably influential titles. There were arcade racers before Pole Position and many newer ones after Daytona, but this was a golden age, with Sega's AM2 team leading the tech front. Taito's Chase H.Q. is more of a vehicular combat game but was also very popular.

@stillidreamof If you have a pet, you will eventually touch its mouth, touch the pet's food, and might even get some poop on you if you're unlucky - and in each case you just wash it away with water and soap. Same way you can wash a fork for goodness sake

once a fork touches pet food it is taken out of rotation permanently. it is ritually impure, it must never touch human food again or the gate to heaven will be blocked for you on the day of judgement

@kmcnam1 The ribbons for this printer typically are for 2 million characters, meaning the capacity is probably lower than a toner cart for a b/w laser printer. Agreeing with the spirit of the post but the cartridge capacity is not 10x.
