In his last act at his final public appearance, the retiring Apostolic Nuncio Cardinal Christophe Pierre read the Proclamation of Pope Leo XIV appointing Archbishop Golka as Archbishop of Denver. He then presented it to him in Latin. When a bishop is installed, he takes the Decree and presents it to the Presbyteral Council of Priests and then to all the priests of the diocese and then the entire congregation. It’s a beautiful tradition respecting the authority of the Pope.

So does anyone know when Archbishop Caccia's assignment as Nuncio actually takes effect? Cause Cardinal Pierre is still being styled as "Apostolic Nuncio to the United States" & not "Apostolic Nuncio Emeritus" as recently as today in DC at the National Shrine.

I am realizing this morning that the 250th anniversary of this country will be the occasion of great temptation for the Church to take up a kind of baptized historical revinisionism in the name of Catholic patriotism. We can love our country without that.

@PatrickDeneen Very insightful. A Catholic university also requires a Catholic college. The residence halls need to act as the college "ballast" that interacts with the university's academic faculty "the sail." Research at the university meets integration in the college. (h/t JH Newman).
