National Commission for Women has taken suo motu cognisance of a deeply disturbing report regarding unauthorized capturing and circulation of a female patient’s private images during surgery at a medical college in Kaushambi, Uttar Pradesh. The incident reflects a gross violation of medical ethics, dignity, and the fundamental right to privacy, and raises serious concerns about safety and accountability within healthcare institutions. The Commission has strongly condemned this reprehensible act, noting that such actions not only constitute criminal offences under relevant laws but also cause severe psychological trauma to the victim and erode public trust in medical systems. The Hon’ble Chairperson has directed the DGP, Uttar Pradesh to ensure immediate registration of FIR, identification and strict action against all culprits, prompt cyber intervention to remove the content, and a thorough probe into security lapses within the institution. The Commission has also sought measures to protect the victim’s identity and provide necessary legal and psychological support, and has also asked the National Medical Commission to take appropriate action under the NMC Act, 2019 and relevant regulations. A detailed Action Taken Report has been sought within 7 days.
