Abdul El-Sayed: “AIPAC and Israel are not the same as Judaism and the Jewish people. I love Judaism and I love the Jewish people. The single most dangerous thing they’ve tried to tell us is somehow they can extend the definition of antisemitism to include a foreign government and its leaders. I call bullshit”

🚨BREAKING: Republicans' odds to flipping the Michigan US Senate seat JUMP OVERNIGHT. Michigan - 2026 US Senate 🟥Mike Rogers 44.3% (+3.7) 🟦Abdul El-Sayed 40.6% Polling average via Pollsmax.com. Abdul El-Sayed has become the Democratic frontrunner, and compared to his primary opponents—Mallory McMorrow and Haley Stevens—he performs by far the worst against Mike Rogers. @jonfavs It’s not *just* the Nazi tattoo that’s 20 years old without removal, it’s the Reddit posts from a few years ago praising it that alarms people! I would ask how could you be this daft, then I remember you were a 1st boot on survivor. Not the best adjusted person lmao

@LouAnonAnon @krubner Lou, according to his Reddit account from his recent his three years ago, he was proud of it being Nazi tattoo. He only expressed regret over it when he started running for public office and somebody leaked it.

I guess I don’t think a stupid tattoo that someone regrets and apologizes for and got over a decade ago while on a combat tour necessarily makes them a nazi. I do think not covering it before running for office makes him kind of an idiot which is not a great quality in a Senator. I think he’d be better off in the house personally, but that’s not the situation we’re in and I choose to live in reality.

If Platner was actually a Nazi, the GOP is right there, he could have easily run as a Republican and they’d happily accept him. The idea that he chose to run as a progressive democrat, so that he could get in there and start acting on some secretly held Nazi ideology is not plausible to me. Idk what to believe about the tattoo, but I do believe that he regrets it and that the values he espouses now show that regret to be genuine. Is Platner my preferred genre of candidate? Absolutely not. Does it piss me off that white men are offered significantly more grace than women and POC candidates would ever be? Absolutely yes. But the fact remains that Maine Democrats chose him to represent their interests in Washington and that means the party should support him.

Question How would the Democrats respond if the GOP fielded a candidate with a literal Nazi tattoo?

@RachelBitecofer @Rusting_Iron How ghoulish and evil to describe a moderate republican in favor of border control a Nazi, while giving an actual trust-fund Nazi a free pass because he gives lip service to policies. I mean this genuinely, this should be a moment where you step away and think.

James - No sir, there is a near zero chance. The cost synergies, greater use of and capacity for fuel hedges, increased access to capital markets, lower cost of capital, plane resources, parts sourcing, labor structure, gate access, and management talent would have all created a fundamentally different airline. All there would be is a company whose employees were not out of a job, vendors who would be getting paid, and creditors not losing billions. This is a catastrophic failure of excessive state intervention and no spin will change that.
James Surowiecki@JamesSurowiecki

If JetBlue's acquisition of Spirit had been approved, there's a good chance JetBlue would now be headed into bankruptcy, too.

@dilanesper JetBlue was planning to raise Spirit's fares by 40%. So the fares would have been meaningfully higher for two years than they were in reality. Even if JB had stayed out of bankruptcy while operating Spirit for another year, aggregate gains to consumers would have been small.

The thing that annoys me about the Spirit-JetBlue discourse is even if the combined airline ultimately failed, it obviously could have hung on for longer and a lot of people would have paid cheaper airfares during that period.

On a show earlier, I was asked whether I’d support Graham Platner. I said No. Not that I matter, but when I became a Democrat 11 months ago, I said the Dem tent must be big enough for Zohran Mamdani & Joe Walsh. And I still believe that. But there’s no tent big enough for me & Graham Platner. And I say that knowing most Dem voters disagree with me. But for me, Platner is a dishonest antisemite who’s lied about, and who’s never owned up to, not just his Nazi tattoo, but all the horrible things he’s said about Jews, Cops, rural whites, women, blacks, rape victims, gays, and so many more people & groups of people. Everyone (except Trump) is capable of changing, but Platner gives zero indication he has changed. I get that for most Dems it’s all about winning. I agree winning is important, but we all have our own personal red lines as well. If I lived in Maine, of course I wouldn’t vote for Susan Collins. But I wouldn’t vote for Platner either.

The story of Platner being rich is that he was actually *too poor* in his early 30s to qualify for a VA loan to buy a modest $164k house, so his small town attorney dad fronted him a *loan,* after not having had to help him pay for college because of combat tours and the GI bill.

Can you imagine being this fucking clueless? The party of personal responsibility wants to go back years, to the nearest Democrat president, to blame them for the fucked up management of an airline by its leadership. Trump literally, in the present moment, DIDN’T HELP THEM EITHER. No, it is not Biden’s fault. It’s the fault of the company’s management. A third grader could have arrived at that basic conclusion. Who takes this shit seriously?
@amuse@amuse

SHUTDOWN: Biden’s DOJ killed Spirit airlines by blocking its merger with JetBlue forcing it into bankruptcy twice. Spirit is likely shutting down now and JetBlue will lose $1B this year. Together they could have survived, now both will likely fold. When government puts their thumb on the scales we all lose.
