I started the morning as part of a terrific panel on global trade, market access, and the future of American and Irish whiskey, at James B. Beam Institute for Kentucky Spirits annual conference.
A few clear takeaways from the discussion:
1.The industry needs more stability in global trade markets so everyone from farmers to distillers can operate with greater predictability.
2.Global trade associations need to stay coordinated and aligned in how we engage our respective governments, commerce departments, and trade officials.
3.The future of premium whiskey remains bright. Heritage, high standards, and expanding market access continue to create real opportunity for growth.
The bottom line: whiskey has the story, the quality, the supply and the global demand. Now we need the trade environment to match.
Thank you Eoin Ó Catháin of the Irish Whiskey Association and Sanjit Padhi International Spirits & Wines Association of India for the continued collaboration and valued partnership.

On this day in 1897, the Bottled-in-Bond Act became law and one of America’s early consumer-protection standards for spirits.
BiB = one distillery + one season + 4+ years bonded aging + 100 proof + clear labeling.
