Help with A level @AQA practical Chromatography RP7.
We get it to work for ivy and spinach, but these are both shade tolerant plants.
Has anyone got a method for either different coloured leaves or shade intolerant plants please? (Ideally with RF values) @chatbiology
Thanks!

The watermelon we enjoy today, evolved from a bitter, wild fruit to a sweet, juicy treat through human ingenuity. Researchers have recently revealed the vast genetic diversity harnessed over millennia to create the modern watermelon. nature.com/articles/s4158…

Has anyone got a method sheet and technician sheet for a liver to show catalase working. I used to do it years ago. I don’t mind what the Independent variable is, just one that I know will work.
Thanks! @chatbiology

2. pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis as it’s the longest word in the dictionary

@samtmugford @dewhurst_ben @mrsjmasters @BeaulieuBio @cravenscience1 @KJF239 @chatbiology @Ben_garrod @BeckRSaunders @MissGBiology @Biol_DrOg @Primrose_Kitten Another vote for crepuscular...it's a great word!
Also love gluconeogenesis and acetylcholinesterase.
English

@emmajwilki @chatbiology Oh fab, would you mind sharing it with me? I will send you a message.

@BiologyRs @chatbiology I've got a ppt of 8 exam questions where I put the data but not the questions. Print and photocopy onto A3 to give lots of space round the sides. Work in pairs to come up with potential questions and also spot tricky bits that would catch out unsuspecting students. Mine loved it!

Has anyone got any ready made blooket’s for either AQA biology GCSE or AQA Biology A level? Thought I would make the last lessons a bit more exciting.
Thanks @chatbiology
English

@MrGoodmanSTEM @KJF239 I know, which my students requested, I was just hoping there might be some good ones available.
English

@BiologyRs Sorry I thought your post said you wanted booklets! Not sure on quizzes.
English

@KJF239 @chatbiology @edwards_dr2 Oh fab, I can see booklets on her website, but no links to quizzes. I might be being silly.
English

@KJF239 @leysbiotutor @flynn_simon @BeaulieuBio That is so lovely. For the neuroscience/pschology. Either a The Spark of Life – Frances Ashcroft (more neuroscience). For a more light hearted one. A man who mistook his wife for a hat.

I want to suggest a book I think they'll enjoy to each of my Y13. Does anyone have any recommendations for someone going on to study
🏑physiotherapy/sports science or
🧠 psychology/neural sciences or
🩺nursing?
@leysbiotutor @flynn_simon @BeaulieuBio
Thanks.

Is it me,or is this a terrible diagram for "The Gene Machine” in topic 8 AQA-Alevel? Nucleotides are circles, then blue/red rectangles that look like old-school erasers. Then a helix for a gene. Then what looks like bricks in a wall. Then a plasmid ring. @mrsjmasters #chatbiology

English

@BeaulieuBio @leysbiotutor @chatbiology @KJF239 My key steps:
Consolidate (however you want), knowledge check (quiz questions, brain dump whatever), exam questions to apply knowledge. Then go back and update what they have learnt from the mark scheme. What’s the key bit.
English

@chatbiology @KJF239 I do think the learning to revise should be centralised, developing common language between departments and the opportunity for students to actually practise the techniques and strategies

Welcome to tonight's #chatbiology tonight we are discussing the forthcoming exams. Please comment on each question as it appears (every 10 minutes over the next 30 minutes) using the hashtag #chatbiology in your reply.

English

@BeaulieuBio @leysbiotutor @chatbiology @KJF239 I agree. I go through how to revise with all students the first time I have a test coming up and I teach them. I do feel there should be a common thread for ideas so that students can chose the best strategy.
English

@BioBurbler @KJF239 Great idea. I had never thought of that. Thanks!
English

@dewhurst_ben Good question, I think they are left over from evolution. @AdamRutherford do you know the answer to this?
