Disgusting. Hateful. Racist. A children's shelter, Childline, denied donations and support because it didn't score enough "points" on the B-BBEE racial scorecard. Why? Too many white kids. This isn't justice or "redress." It's plain and simple racial discrimination against defenceless children. A policy so morally bankrupt it turns away help from kids based purely on race. Revolting.

If I didn't know better, I would suggest that the South African @GovernmentZA is actively doing everything in its power to foment a civil war in our country. Diesel going up by 20% is absolutely outrageous. Our fuel is taxed in excess of 30% on every liter. @CyrilRamaphosa could offset those levies if he truly cared about the people of this nation. He doesn't. How does the @MYANC imagine ANYONE being able to weather a 20% increase in the cost of living? The price of fuel has a bearing on EVERYTHING. Food. Transports. Goods. All of it is affected. ... and don't tell me that this is all due to the Iran conflict. We get most of our oil from places like Angola and Nigeria. Why, then, are we being punished like this at the pump? To all my American followers: after Wednesday, South Africans will be paying the equivalent of $9/gallon for diesel.

The situation in South Africa 🇿🇦 only seems to be getting worse. I wrote it about it last weekend in my newsletter (link follows), but the update via the thread below illustrates that the government seems to be getting quite desperate, and what follows that sort of desperation tends to not be good. I shared what you can do to help at the link in the comments.

I'm not interested in South Africa just because it's heartbreaking to watch a nation with so much raw potential get hollowed out, though it is. I'm interested in South Africa because it's a warning of what happens when you replace merit with race, when grievance becomes policy, when forgiveness is skipped and revenge is dressed up as justice, and when you stop seeing individuals and start seeing groups. That's not a South African problem. That's a human one. And the West is not as far from it as it thinks.
