@Bobjacket @DutchBKate I see a lot of similarities between the two - a lack of willingness to adapt their game to conditions, or to the challenge different bowlers pose. It’s just attack and don’t mind too much if it doesn’t come off. Test cricket won’t let you get away with that for too long

Why is Jacob Bethell a shoe in or "established" in the Test squad? Is it just because he scored a fabulous 154 in the last innings of Test cricket that England played & everyone has short memories? He averages less than 10 in the 1st innings in his Test career.

@burge1987 @DutchBKate Agree. That was a terrific innings - after that, he had to be given a run of games and its the same for Bethell I think 🙂

@Bobjacket @DutchBKate Zak Crawley batted wonderfully when he made his double century that time, but that didn’t mean that he could do it consistently or was the right person for the job.

@Bobjacket @LeadingEdgePod Was checking out his Wiki entry. Last man to bowl 10,000 balls in a season. Imagine modern players doing that..

Most wickets in County Championship history 🏏 These records belong to a completely different cricketing world. AP “Tich” Freeman leads the way with 3,151 wickets and an unbelievable 328 five-wicket hauls. A Kent leg-spinner and one of the greatest wicket-taking machines in cricket history, he also holds the wider first-class record for most five-wicket hauls. Wilfred Rhodes is next: 3,119 wickets at 15.72. A Yorkshire icon, England great, and one of cricket’s ultimate all-round careers - starting as a brilliant left-arm spinner and later becoming a serious opening batter too. Charlie Parker took 3,022 wickets, mostly for Gloucestershire. A slow left-armer with huge workload and vicious spin, he remains one of first-class cricket’s all-time leading wicket-takers. Then you’ve got Tom Goddard, another Gloucestershire giant, and Derek Shackleton, Hampshire’s relentless seam metronome, who took 100 wickets in 20 consecutive seasons. Modern bowlers simply don’t live in this statistical universe. #CountyCricket #Cricket #CountyChampionship Stats by redballcricketstats.com

In the last two years, Dom Sibley has the best batting record in CC. By more metrics than anyone, he's top of the tree. Yet nobody talks about him. Had a look on the @CricViz Substack about why that is, about selection, and the old battle: data v eyes. cricvizanalyst.substack.com/p/dom-sibley-a…

@owenjonesjourno My bug bear is the use of the word talent to describe a fellow MP. "Once in a generation talent" "He's very talented" 🤢😅😞

Now that the pressure is off him a bit, I genuinely hope Zak Crawley can carve out a fulfilling and successful career for himself at Kent. I don’t think anyone wanted him to fail, but it was certainly high time for England to get him out of the firing line given his poor run of scores. Hopefully the vast majority of fans now wish him well.

@IsraelMFA Good luck with this, but it would be more effective to instruct the Mossad to hack into their IT systems, subscription platform, etc. Knocking these scum offline for a day or two would send a strong message.

Following the publication by Nicholas Kristof in The New York Times of one of the most hideous and distorted lies ever published against the State of Israel in the modern press, which also received the backing of the newspaper, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar have instructed the initiation of a defamation lawsuit against The New York Times.

With Emilio Gay set to open innings against NZ, there will be two left handed batsmen opening for England. And also if Bethell is the number 3, England will have top 3 that are left handed. When as the last time this happened in England cricket? @cricketslave @Marcus60s70s80s @WG_RumblePants

@allywilson1987 @Calmacleod @andrewslaven7 seems dubious to award a pen. The major impact has to be forehead on ball - that's why the ball travelled so far. Maybe the hand also brushes the ball, but I don't think there's a conclusive picture

For me. It's a handball. The excuse of trajectory is rubbish. Unnatural position & hits the hand. McInness quotes also calling this "disgusting decision" is also a full Kevin Keegan moment. The pressure has finally popped. Don't be dragged into decisions out of your control.

@GrandAuldTeam_ @scottmufc1979 if its made contact with his hand it can only be a very minor touch. Its not possible to see that on these pictures. His hand is obscured by the ball when it hits is head

Seriously that is never a handball at Fir Park. The boy headed it 20 yards. The ref takes one look after VAR calls him over. Embarrassing for Scottish football.
