WORKING FROM HOME ARGUMENT I honestly can’t see the justification for making people return to the office if you are not customer facing/ front line staff You want people to pay excessive amounts on travel, waste hours travelling for what ? To sit next to you while you say 4 words all day. For those who don’t do their work, monitor them and tell them they have to attend the office 4 days a week for a PIP and you’ll see how quickly they’ll improve…. but if someone’s is hitting targets and doing their work, while making it easier to be a better mother or father or carer to elderly parents, by being present doing the school run, attending after school activities on time and getting a home cooked meal prepared for their family why stop that ??

So I work as a software engineer at a very well known bank[ing group] and today a senior manager told us we will no longer be writing code, but only problem solving. They want us to use AI to code so we can concentrate on the problems. I'm so glad I don't bank with them.

tech industry is optimizing itself to death.

Same in a big bank from NYC - they have a dedicated page tracking how many lines generated by AI - on an average you need to push code at least 4 days a week.

@Bombi_uk I wrote an options paper today. None of the decisions makers will read anything other than the summary and maybe the detail for option 1 so I got copilot to write up the details of the other options; took about 2 mins to do; it’s total rubbish but it’s just padding so who cares.
