@jhanatech Mindful meditation has been around for literally centuries - to say it's on its way out is asinine

Meditation apps and "mindfulness" are on their way out. The jhanas are states of profound joy, peace, and wellbeing you can access on demand. We teach beginners how to enter them in a week. No meditation experience required. jhourney.io

fwiw: I don't think 'mindfulness' will be the default meditation entry point in five years' time. Jhanas are absurdly more compelling + beneficial for almost everyone (training emotional fluidity, embodiment + unclenching) But I also doubt jhana will go mainstream unless it goes through something of a re-brand. (friends outside of the inner-work echo chamber squint when I say the word and I think 'jh' is unfortunately a barrier) My guess is it will follow a similar trajectory to yoga nidra which @hubermanlab rebranded as NSDR, and it then exploded in popularity Likely there will be some meaningful research on jhanas states → they'll create a scientific technical-sounding acronym like 'BASE' (Bliss Attractor State Emergence), and @jhanatech by then will hopefully have cracked an accessible entry point for teaching jhana-access.

@crosstown_line I feel like NoVa and DC are the best compromise. Winters aren't horrible and the public transit is fine. Not a huge city like NYC or Chicago but not like sprawl hell.

I kind of hate how in the US you have to choose either perfect weather or good architecture and urbanism/transit, but you can’t get both

Additional considerations: - Texturally, square pretzel is > circle, but more pretzel by mass which makes it worse - This analysis doesn't consider "handful combos" which are an entirely different tier list (1 rye + 2 corn + 1 wheat chex + 1 mini breadstick is an optimal handful for example) - Special Request bags of only rye chips are good, but consuming 100% rye chip is like eating dessert for the full meal, only a gluttonous pig would do such a thing. These bags should be used to "cut in" more rye chips into an original bag to optimize the ratio
Kevin → Plant Daddy@KevinEspiritu

Rye Chip: The wagyu of the bag. Dense, salty, crunchy, and most importantly somewhat rare in a classic bag of Gardetto's, leading to a scarcity flavor boosting psychological effect. Discerning consumers pair a classic bag with a "Special Request" bag of rye chips to balance the ratio. Wheat Chex: Smaller and more dense grid, slightly crunchier than Corn Chex and more flavorful overall. A reliable second to rye chips. Corn Chex: A weaker and less flavorful base grain, but still passable as a random pull from the bag. Mini Breadstick: We've entered "filler" territory now. Decent surface area, holds a solid amount of salt. But more of a palate cleanser in between rounds of the top three. Circle Pretzel: No one comes to Gardetto's for a pretzel, let's be real. Circle is only second worst because it's objectively less pretzel by mass than... Square Pretzel: Absolute F-Tier trash. Pure filler, too smooth and barely even holds salt. Often never leaves the bag amongst sophisticated Gardetto consumers.

happy to see a tweet give me the chance to share one of my fave lectures on youtube that I watch every year this 1 hr lecture tells you that shame is sustained by our longing to be loved, and because it is inevitable, we must approach it with curiosity instead of judgment :^)

@sailaunderscore Out of curiosity, can you share an interview of someone who you would deem to be particularly intelligent? Not defending Epstein by any means lol, more curious to see what gives off "intelligent"

Listening to Epstein interview. He doesn’t seem to be particularly too intelligent, but what is notable is a sense of tranquility and measure while he speaks.

EQ and RQ are better predictors of social success than IQ. IQ is basically the ability to compute and, in part, to store information. But if you feed it bad inputs, or you store bad data, IQ doesn’t do you much good. I’ve met someone with an IQ several standard deviations above the mean and a terrible personality, trapped by an oversized ego, stuck in a situation I wouldn’t wish on anyone. And I’ve met other people who were less extreme on the IQ scale but had exceptional character, people who are ready to face anything imo. There’s no rule, of course, but there are definitely patterns. Buffett’s take on IQ: "How I got here is pretty simple in my case. It’s not IQ, I’m sure you’ll be glad to hear. The big thing is rationality. I always look at IQ and talent as representing the horsepower of the motor, but that the output—the efficiency with which that motor works—depends on rationality. A lot of people start out with 400-horsepower motors but only get a hundred horsepower of output. It’s way better to have a 200-horsepower motor and get it all into output."

i refuse to believe people with high IQs struggle to fit in with society. You’re essentially playing a game, and you’re trying to say the smartest people playing the game, can’t figure out how to play it? It makes no sense, likely comes from people who think they’re smarter than they are and are struggling.
