My 11-year-old is excited to see THE ODYSSEY with me tomorrow at the 10 a.m. press screening, entirely because he’s a huge Greek mythology nerd. My 79-year-old mother asked me about THE ODYSSEY after she saw Matt Damon talk about how big and challenging it was. It’ll be fine.

@badkobold @odysseymovie @UniversalPics Troy was not a more faithful adaptation to the source material. There weren’t any Gods in it. Condensed storyline. Helen’s backstory scrapped for a made up one. You just hate black people.

Nolan, in case you’re a little slow on the uptake; this response to your deliberately attempting to stab Greece AND all whose ancestors came from Europe AND all humans who love and respect heritage, literature, myth, and tradition from every continent and era; all this ridicule, anger, and loathing directed at you… it won’t be just for this incoming megaflop… it’s going to repeat for every other movie you make. You should take your £400,000,000 and relax in your garden with a good book, and try to forget that we exist.

@Pointer1517446 @ReelShiftJoe I prefer quality actors in movies. Of every movie was 100% accurate to the subject there would be a lot of boring, terribly acted movies.

One of the reasons Im against #TheOdyssey backlash... Because I've already seen people saying they are waiting for the REAL reviews, meaning that if you don't trash the film your opinion isn't legitimate. Culture War has made REAL film discussion impossible & it needs to end.

Something about this doesn’t sit right with me… The Odyssey is rooted in one of Greece’s greatest literary works. Parts of the film were even shot in Greece. Yet the announced global tour visits cities like London, Paris, Mumbai, New York, Beijing and Seoul… …but not Greece. I’m not saying every movie must premiere where its story comes from. But if you’re celebrating Homer’s Odyssey, doesn’t Greece deserve at least one stop? Or do you think a global tour should simply focus on the biggest movie markets? 👇 Where do you stand?

@Oblomow1987 @polemios It looks very poorly acted and boring. It seems to be the most accurate though so that’s good. None of the other adaptations are 100% faithful.

Only a few more days left, and The Odyssey, even on premium large screens, barely has any tickets sold... In this example, similar show time, same movie theater, only 2 tickets sold on the big screen, and the IMAX is almost full. Over 90% of the tickets sold went to 70mm native IMAX theaters. This means that the ticket sales and the enthusiasm are front-loaded... basically, those people who were going to see the movie no matter what because of Nolan, and they are IMAX enthusiasts. Ticket presales into the premium screens, regular IMAX, etc would indicate broad interest, but without it... that means a lot of people are gonna be skipping watching the movie. There are only thirty-nine 70 mm true IMAX screens worldwide, and only 24 of which are in the US. The fact that there are STILL seats available even in the limited 70 mm IMAX screens only a few days out is a bad sign for the movie. This means opening weekend will be pretty good, about 80-120 million. Then there will be a sharp drop-off in the 2nd week and beyond.

@polemios I think it'll have a strong opening weekend, followed by a precipitous dropoff in ticket sales immediately afterwards

@polemios That ist the main problem. Some Americans put European culture on the same level as American popculture, with no other purpose then entertainment.

@mei_vale @Eleven__11XI The production spent $20 million on Greek extras, Greek crew, food, transportation etc. After they spent all of that then the Greek government reimbursed them $8 million. If the production wouldn’t have come then the country wouldn’t have made $12 million.

@Bredcastle @Eleven__11XI Honestly, it doesn't work very well for the Greek taxpayers 😉 It's a win/win for the production (finding locations or building ones would be a cost in Greece or wherever) So, since the movie is about the Greek main hero, and Greece concurred to the costs, well...

@Pointer1517446 @ReelShiftJoe Do you know what an extra is? Greek extras were used. They are on screen. Also the crew is just as important as the cast. When you say you who are you talking about. I’m just me.

@Bredcastle @ReelShiftJoe Is that the standard you apply when you are complaining about lack of representation? No on-screen natives in a native story, but its OK because the guys doing the grunt work were brown? You are hypocrites, we are applying your own standards to you and you're playing dumb.

@Bredcastle @Eleven__11XI "Spent more that it received back" 😂😂🤣 of course, the production would have liked local people to work for free, and instead, thanks to Greek taxpayers, they had them at 2/3 of the normal price I wonder if they were a bit scared to stop by Athens

@Pointer1517446 @ReelShiftJoe Greece netted around $12 million dollars from the production. They can’t complain about that. They hired local cast and crew in Greece too.

@ReelShiftJoe Nolan filmed in Greece, got tax money from the Greek government. Then cast ZERO greeks. He race swapped a native people out of their own cultural heritage. Deep down you DO understand the problem here, you are just playing dumb.

@jammypants4 Any guesses who made the film........ The directors of Game of Thrones. They ace adaptations. They would have nailed GOT too if the books had been continued. Alas.

I remember watching this epic in a packed theatre in Wave Cinemas in Noida in 2004 🔥 Brad Pitt as Achilles & Eric Bana as Hector are so powerful! The scale of the war & attention to detail is chefs kiss. You notice Sean Bean as Odysseus even more, with the film coming out this weekend. What a film!
