@i2cjak same dev also makes Stationeers, which is the best modern version of gmod spacebuild (iykyk) i've found. focused more on the planet survival/engineering side of things, but still very deep on physics (and somewhat accurate)

@valhalla_dev would u say this is due to increasingly concentrated control of political influence and capital or how slow and ineffective public resistance often is?

it used to be possible for sf to ignore negative sentiment about ai, but there will be a time soon where you can’t build without the masses on board. maine data center construction being halted is a great example of this. you don’t find this resistance in china.

Yeah so this is the Butlerian Left, they've taken over pretty much the entirety of the US progressive left (at minimum, don't know much about their sway in Europe or Asian leftist movements) and the realization that they've completely brainwormed the left has lead me to doomerism followed by acceptance that there is absolutely 0 broad social movement out there that has any chance of countering the US far right in the near term. They are completely and unsparingly ignorant about not just AI or fancy new stuff but just the basics of how the internet and technology works. You can see it in the replies to Taylor's tweets. Like zero foundational understanding of how any of this stuff works, and these are the people hounding AOC, Bernie, etc. into taking braindead stances on AI and datacenters. This isn't me being like "yeah so that's why I'm on the right now" it's an extremely frustrated admission that I and a ton of other progressive engineers are incredibly politically homeless because the progressive political movement is made up of extremely online people who don't know how to print a PDF but want the power to erase technological progress from the globe.

@d33r3driv3r @ubi_works LVT/georgism is widely regarded as one of the most efficient, least distortionary tax system available, and one of the few convergences across economists is that it's underutilized

Andrew Yang's been right about a lot of things and he's right about this. We shouldn't be taxing workers so highly when they're in the crosshairs of automation.

i should probably make a prediction. anthropic will be the first lab to achieve agi/asi it’s fairly obvious that research and talent are the moat. now obviously you don’t get a seat at the poker table without a few gw’s and a private line with mr jensen. but meta and microsoft are proof that those things alone don’t count for shit. so ok fine, we’re in the era of research. so let’s look at who’s at the party rn. xai: still kinda stuck in the chatbot era, don’t feel as strong on agency and coding. huge re shuffle is a risk. could pay off. let’s see. google: the code red kinda worked, but not really. again model lacks agency, smart? yes. useful? i’m yet to see it. so who out of openai and claude seem to have the best research taste and shipping velocity? well, in the last eight months anthropic have been far in front. first to see how importing coding was, skills, computer use, mcps, claude code, co work. i could go on. they’ve even built clawdbot before the company that bought it…like, cmon sam. i’m an openai stan in truth. but. this is clear. and i wonder if it’s all powered by a) vastly stronger models b) vastly better research taste c) dario’s vision and focus big year i’d say.

@DanielleFong that behavior's just as valid/smart, provided it's in the name of future human prosperity, but not if it's in the name of personal wealth or hoarding

@nomadicpreneur @DeryaTR_ i was being unnecessarily vague there, temporal merging as in merging over time, with a shortest possible duration to hopefully be determined

@davidpattersonx If that is the case, then in addition to liquidating savings, and spending every penny earned, someone should load up on debt, because in the future repayment will be trivial. If savings mean nothing, then debt will mean nothing either. Or am I missing something?

Some people say now is your last chance to get rich before all work disappears. It’s not true. We will all be rich. And everything you have saved will have been a waste of time. Your million-dollar house will be worth $10,000. The price of everything will drop by 99%. That means your universal high income (UHI) will be worth 100 times an average salary today. Your savings will mean nothing, and we will all be rich.

@DenisQuaalude Understood. Each step adds double (twice the sum of) all prior values combined to the previous number. 1, 3, 11, 41, 153, 571, 2131, 7953, 29681, 110771

Dario says we’re already in square 40 of the chessboard. For reference if you place 1 grain of rice on the first square and double it every square, on square - 40 you’re at 18% of India (world largest producer) total rice production - 41 at 36% - 42 at 100% of India’s total production - 43 - 50% of world rice production - 44 - 100% global production
