@ELF785 @samstein @CitizenCohn I’m not saying healthcare isn’t important. I’m saying nothing matters until citizens United is taken care of. I don’t trust politicians to do anything right until billionaire donors are out of the picture. The only way to get real change is to first end Citizens United.

@Timodc @jonfavs not sure if it’s just me, but I have not been able to see a single post on my timeline about No Kings… if I search for No Kings and like every post, it doesn’t change anything. They’re deliberately trying to censor anyone posting videos of No Kings protests.

🚨BREAKING: A massive crowd of people have gathered in London in support of the American left’s No Kings protest. The country that literally has a King is protesting against America who doesn’t. Can’t make this stuff up.

@meta_rach No you cannot. AMC charges extra everytime you want to go to IMAX showings. The monthly rate is $25 to see unlimited standard movies. IMAX and Special Showings you still have to pay

@GeriPerna @Lowes I’m convinced my Lowe’s only has 2-3 employees. You cannot find anyone to help you in a Lowe’s. It’s such a shame. There used to far and away the best Hardware store. I still refuse to give my money to Home Depot and their MAGA CEO. But Lowe’s is following their lead

I am so tired of ringing up my own purchases. @Lowes, you need actual cashiers, not people standing around making sure customers ring everything up. I bought some adhesive today, and the register wouldn't continue until the supervisor typed in a bunch of overrides. How is this any different than her ringing up the purchase herself? There is no one in any department to assist with finding anything, and I find myself buying items on my Amazon app WHILE SHOPPING IN YOUR STORE because I cannot find anyone to help me. Do you want me to show up in the morning to unload the trucks and stock the shelves, too?

The air traffic controller cleared the fire truck onto the runway. Seconds later, the same controller screamed “stop, stop, stop.” The plane was doing 93 to 105 mph. Both pilots are dead. Everyone will frame this as controller error. One controller was simultaneously managing a United flight that aborted takeoff after an anti-ice warning, dispatching a fire truck across an active runway, and sequencing an inbound Air Canada landing at highway speed. At 11:40 PM. On a mandatory overtime shift at a facility that has been understaffed for years. A system that assigns one person that workload will produce exactly this outcome. The only variable is when. The FAA is short approximately 3,000 controllers. The headcount dropped 13% from 2010 to 2024 while flight volume rose 10%. Over 40% of the FAA’s 290 terminal facilities are understaffed. The New York TRACON, which manages the most congested airspace in America across LaGuardia, JFK, and Newark, has been chronically below target. Newark was operating at 59% of its staffing goal. LaGuardia handles 900 flights a day. The hiring pipeline is broken at every stage. Only 2% of applicants complete the full process. Training takes up to 6 years. The FAA Academy in Oklahoma City is a bottleneck, with roughly 35% of trainees washing out. Congress blocked legislation to build a second academy. In one recent hiring cycle, the FAA brought on 1,512 candidates and lost 1,300 in the same window. Net gain: around 160 controllers for an entire country. Three things need to happen and everyone who can make them happen has known for years. Congress needs to fund and authorize a second FAA training academy. One facility in Oklahoma City cannot produce enough controllers for 900 million annual passengers. Members of Congress from Oklahoma have actively blocked this. That needs to end yesterday. The FAA needs to cut certification time. Six years from application to fully certified controller is absurd. The agency’s own data shows tower simulators reduce certification time by 27%. They’ve installed them at 95 facilities. That should be every facility, and the simulated hours should count toward more of the certification requirement. The FAA needs to stop plugging staffing gaps with mandatory overtime. Controllers at understaffed facilities are working six-day weeks rotating between morning, mid, and night shifts. The NTSB has flagged fatigue repeatedly. The controller last night was managing overlapping emergencies during a nighttime operation. Overtime is not a staffing plan. It’s a countdown to the next runway collision. The controller said “I messed up” to a Frontier pilot who watched the whole thing. The pilot responded “No man, you did the best you could.” One of them is right. The answer determines whether this happens again.

@anishmoonka @randomu_goldend While that makes sense for digitally shot movies. The truth is that the best films are shot on film. Not every movie is digital. And if it is digital, I’m more than likely not buying a ticket. There are still many films being shot on film though. This is slightly deceptive

movies are digital now so theaters get files, not physical reels. studios can push updated versions to theaters after opening weekend. on no way home, digital domain’s VFX supervisor confirmed they delivered final shots in the second week of december for a december 17 release, and were still reworking shots into mid-january. the version you saw opening night may not be the version playing two weeks later.

Sure, your eyes aren’t tricking you. That clip looks better than the new trailer, and the reason has nothing to do with talent. The VFX supervisor on Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014? Jerome Chen. The VFX supervisor on Brand New Day? Also Jerome Chen. Same person. Completely different system around him. In 2014, Chen had 50 effects artists at Sony Imageworks, the largest VFX crew the studio had ever put on a single project. They handled about 1,000 of the film’s 1,600 VFX shots on a $255 million budget. The crew shot on real film (not digital), on location in actual New York City, scanned Times Square with 36,000 photographs of over 100 billboards, and built physical lighting rigs on set so the CGI would match the real world. Now look at how Marvel makes Spider-Man movies. No Way Home had 2,500 VFX shots spread across 12 studios and about 3,000 artists. The budget was $200 million, $55 million less than TASM2 despite having 56% more VFX shots. Digital Domain, one of the VFX vendors, was delivering final shots days before the December 17, 2021, release. They kept reworking shots into mid-January, after the movie was already in theaters. Zoom out, and the math gets worse. Marvel released 6 films between 2008 and 2012. From 2023 to 2025, they pushed out 7 films and 7 TV shows. The Hollywood union representing VFX workers reported that Marvel pays artists about 20% below industry average and staffs one person where other studios hire three. Artists described 64-hour weeks and breakdowns on the job. Then, in February 2025, Technicolor, the parent company of MPC (three-time Oscar winner for Life of Pi, The Jungle Book, and 1917), collapsed almost overnight. 4,500 jobs gone globally. The studio had been actively working on Disney and Paramount films when the lights went out. Brand New Day has four months before release, and trailers routinely show unfinished shots. But the gap between a 2014 Spider-Man and a 2026 Spider-Man has nothing to do with technology going backwards. The industry has been asked to do three times the work for less money per shot while its biggest studios are going under.

@anishmoonka Great explanation. My takeaway is that Actors are paid wayyyyyy wayyyyy wayyyyyyyyy too much. Especially in some super hero slop movie. Actors don’t make movies like this, the VFX artists do. Marvel deserves to go under if they can’t see that

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.
