Activists often face difficult decisions about how visible they can be. Even in exile, they and their families can become targets of transnational repression. Uyghur advocate @RushanAbbas spoke publicly in Washington against CCP abuses in 2018. Just days later, her sister, a retired doctor, was detained in China. She remains imprisoned to this day. .@ChinaSelect Chairman @RepMoolenaar has urged @POTUS and @SecRubio to demand the release of CCP prisoners of conscience in any future meeting with Xi Jinping. The letter specifically names Dr. Gulshan Abbas alongside Uyghurs, Tibetans, Hong Kong democracy advocates, Falun Gong practitioners, and Chinese Christians as victims of the CCP's systematic campaign of persecution. Trade cannot be the only priority in any Trump-Xi meeting. The release of every political prisoner must be on the agenda. #FreeGulshanAbbas
