Something revolutionary seems to have happened today.
Responding to a question on Russian threats towards the Baltic States – Russia alleges that they provide airspace for Ukrainian drone attacks against Russian targets – the spokesperson for the European Commission, Thomas Regnier, stated that “an attack on one of our Member States is an attack on the EU as a whole”.
This is NATO Article 5 language, but here the reference to NATO has been replaced with that to the EU, and this is not accidental.
I may be mistaken, but this replacement may be the first of its kind when it comes to the European Commission. Previously, there were general statements along the lines of “one for all, and all for one”, but without a reference to either NATO or the EU, yet it was still presumed to be about NATO.
Of course, there is a mutual defence clause (Article 42.7) in the Treaty on European Union: “If a Member State is the victim of armed aggression on its territory, the other Member States shall have towards it an obligation of aid and assistance by all the means in their power”.
However, Article 42.7 has never – to my knowledge – been invoked so explicitly and, at the same time, indirectly as it was today, effectively replacing NATO language with EU language in the context of collective security. A sign of tectonic shifts.

@CFalticineanu @A_SHEKH0VTS0V They can't because it never happened. They can and regularly do lie.
Belarus' air space on the other hand has been open to Russian attacks.

@TayorUyghur Ukraine isn't just for ukrainians, can't let a nationalistic intolerant ethnicity to do whatever it wants in some place. Bandera, past fascism, one language, Ukraine for ukrainians...this shit was accepted in the hypocrite West fir the sake of hurting Russia

Mehdi seems lost his moral compass:
1.Ukraine did not invade another country—Russia invaded Ukraine.
2.Ukraine is fighting for its national survival, not to preserve a regime.
3.Ukraine has not sponsored terrorist groups in the Middle East, unlike Iran.
4.Ukraine has not attacked Gulf states, unlike Iran.
5.Ukraine does not impose a religious doctrine on its citizens, while Iran does.
6.Ukraine has not killed tens of thousands of its own citizens for protesting, as Iran has.
7.Ukraine does not punish women over their choice of dress, while Iran does.
8.Ukrainian leadership has not called for the destruction of other countries, unlike Iranian leadership call “death to America”
9.Iran has supplied Shahed drones to Russia, which have been used to kill Ukrainians.
Ukrainians have right to defend themselves against Iranian regime who supplied Russians with weapons
Mehdi Hasan@mehdirhasan
It's astonishing that you, a world leader who many respected for standing up to an illegal attack on your country, now support an illegal attack on another country. It completely kills your credibility. Right now. Iran is Ukraine. You may not like to hear that but that is a fact

@Uncommonsince76 This show how insanely stupid Americans were even back then

During the Cuban Missile Crisis, Russia had nuclear armed submarines off the coast of Cuba and was ready to strike in case a war went off.
The U.S. dropped “depth charges” to try and expose these submarines and bring them to the surface.
One problem, the guys in the Soviet submarine thought the nuclear war had already started based on the “depth charges” and were ready to strike.
Soviet protocol was that they needed agreement from the 3 leaders on board to approve the strike. They could not contact anyone from the USSR at that depth so they were given full autonomy.
2 leaders approved the strike, Arkhipov opposed, believing correctly it was just “depth charges” going off….
The nuclear strike was avoided, and all thanks to one man that is mostly forgotten by history….
The lesson there is that at the end of the day orders have to be carried out by people… pray that orders and responsibility fall down to men who have the sense to use that authority wisely and understand the gravity of the situation they are in…

Ukrainian strikes hit the Russian frigate Admiral Essen again in Novorossiysk on April 6. Identification was confirmed by distinctive radar coloring and vessel positioning, distinguishing it from other Project 11356R frigates. #Ukraine

@PeterWalkerSA @fellaraktar How will be Russia? Is that a bad thing?
English

@fellaraktar On the dollars of the the world. Ukraine would be Russia right now if it wasn’t for the hundreds of billions in money and arms it received.
English

@MarinStrade I mean Russia doesn't get any money from the west so it's their business, not like the utterly corrupt ukrainians..

@LexuBores @Almightypaull @ak24ro Lucru bun, doar ca trebuie reformulate postarea, firme multinationale produc auto in Romania e corect

@Alex2Desna @speckledmoth @yarotrof 😅 Do you think oil market could manage whitout gulf and Russian oil? I pay already over 2 euros per diesel litre. Mind you, baltic ports already resumed exports
English

@CFalticineanu @speckledmoth @yarotrof Don’t worry about it. US, Canada, Guyana can ship more. Russia can’t earn oil money to fund its war. Waiting for feckless Trump to end Russian war is hopeless.
English

In the last two weeks, Ukraine repeatedly pounded two of Russia’s three main oil export ports, Ust Luga and Primorsk on the Baltic, causing massive damage. Last night, it attacked the third, the Sheskharis oil terminal of the Novorossiysk port on the Black Sea. Taken together, the three ports account for roughly three-quarters of Russia’s seaborne oil exports. Kyiv is making sure Russia’s war machine can’t cash in on surging oil prices.
English

@HBrandstaetter Now tell us, who's attacking Turkstream compressors? Drujba? Nordstream?
English

So you continue to tell us this stupid lie?
Orbán Viktor@PM_ViktorOrban
❗️ Sabotage attempt. An attempt was made to blow up the gas pipeline supplying Hungary. We are prepared. We will ensure Hungary’s energy security.
English

@Alex2Desna @speckledmoth @yarotrof It's only so much oil on the market. They don't produce enough for themselves either, so from where will they buy? And at what price?
English

@barkndogz @yarotrof Oil exports from the baltic ports have resumed. Also previous damage in novorossiysk war repaired quickly.
English

@CFalticineanu @yarotrof Ukraine systematically destroying russia's oil/gas industry will most certainly aid it in getting back its territory and being rid of the russians forever
English

@speckledmoth @yarotrof It will cause a lot more pain on the europeans
English

@CFalticineanu @yarotrof It will cause the Russians some hurt, right? And that's what matters.
English

@TimothyDSnyder Sure, exactly like blaming Ukraine for Nord Stream, everyone knows that Russians blew their own pipes.

Background: Orbán is an entrenched but wildly unpopular oligarch and authoritarian. He is facing an election that he will decisively lose — unless he can manage some trick. This obvious false flag (which he will now blame on Ukraine) should not fool anyone. It should only remind us that other people in similar situations (I mean Trump) will have similar thoughts. See my essay from yesterday on "The Next Coup Attempt."
