@CFlanders7 Chris you highlighted a point which is at the basis of this AI cycle. Memory used to be a cyclical sector (buy high pe, sell low pe): we have witnesses the transformation of memories from cyclical to growth sector. This implies that memory can now be multi year winners like aapl

In case this is anyone's first time. Semis and Memory names are highly cyclical (boom/bust). I personally love trading them because they TREND like nothing else. Just be aware, when it's over, they can drop farther than you can imagine. Is the trend over? I don't know. Just something to be aware of.

@dpinsen Do the tops coincide with peak earnings? I haven't studied that. I look at what the price is doing.

@CFlanders7 All the recent earnings reports and guidance suggest memory names aren’t anywhere close to peak earnings. Seems unlikely that their earnings rocket higher for another 8 or 12 quarters with their stocks languishing to the point where they’re trading for less than book.

@CFlanders7 Do you think this is a bad omen for the general market? It's not good when market leaders of the previous rally gets sold off like this. The pic on the $SPY isn't looking good either: Gap-down, then rally to the 21-EMA and got sold off.

@itaykakun That is why trading very very small from the beginning is so important. You have to learn, often through trial and error/experience.

@CFlanders7 Really appreciate the answer. Lets say i do take a lot less risk right now because of the drawdown and i do have a plan. i feel the problem is i dont know when to do nothing. In some way i am forcing action somedays but yet i can only tell that in hindsight.

Great question. It sounds like you are trying to force trades to stop losing instead of just following your plan...assuming you have a plan or process you follow. Chances are either your timing is off, or the market is hostile to your strategy. Either way, you want to trade much smaller or not at all until you can figure out what is going on. I like the analogy of the market as a boxer in a ring. Any time you want, you can step into the ring and take a swing at him. The market can ONLY counter-punch. In other words, unless you CHOOSE to risk (throw a punch) you cannot be hurt by the market. Many traders will go in and just throw wild haymakers. Some will land, but the ones that don't, they leave yourself exposed to a devastating counter-punch. When you are on a long losing streak its like you keep stepping into the ring, take a swing, miss, get punched, knocked down over and over only to stand back up and keep swinging. You can just sit there, rest and wait. The market will do nothing to you until you are ready to try again.

@CFlanders7 Great analogy Christian. You reminded me of a slightly different version in that when you are not throwing punches, the market is shadow boxing. If not ready to throw a punch or just throwing a jab, learn from the shadow boxing. Sorry I missed you in HK.

I still remember the first time I got caught in a blow up trade. The disbelief, frozen in fear. The thought that "this can't possibly be happening to me. I'm a special snowflake. This kind of stuff only happens to other people." Was a punch in the gut. ANY-THING can happen in markets. I am not special. I am just one of tens of millions of market participants.

Spoke with a friend in China who regularly travels to Nigeria to do business and hires security to escort him around with AK-47s so he can pass “check points” (bribe spots) with guys who are also armed with AK-47s. He finds that less risky than trading stocks.
