The conflict in Sudan is not only a crisis inside Sudan. Almost 4.5 million people have now fled Sudan to neighboring countries, placing heavy strain on already fragile systems. Overcrowded camps and limited funding have deepened humanitarian needs for refugees and host communities across the region. More than 450,000 children in South Sudan are at risk of severe acute malnutrition. There are outbreaks of measles and malaria in Ethiopia and in Chad, access to water has become a daily struggle. Volunteers from the Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies in Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia, Uganda, and South Sudan, supported by the @IFRC, are working tirelessly to help people, providing clean water, build latrines, psychosocial support, cash assistance. Yet, more support is needed. We call on governments, institutions, and private partners to act now. Without urgent international support, lives will be lost, and the situation will worsen dramatically. ifrc.org/press-release/…

Humanitarian personnel are civilians. They must be protected under international humanitarian law. I am outraged by the killing of Lebanese Red Cross volunteer paramedic Youssef Assaf, who succumbed to the injuries he sustained while carrying out his humanitarian duty to assist and save lives. Youssef Assaf was among the Lebanese Red Cross @RedCrossLebanon ambulance volunteers who responded to people affected by hostilities following an airstrike in Majdal Zoun, Tyre in South Lebanon, on 9 March. While assisting in the evacuation of the wounded, he sustained serious injuries and later succumbed to them. The @IFRC extends its deepest condolences to Youssef’s family and loved ones, as well as colleagues at the Lebanese Red Cross. We also express our concern over the injuries sustained by three Lebanese Red Cross paramedics while carrying out ambulance missions at two separate locations. The IFRC reiterates its call that ambulance personnel, medical staff, and Lebanese Red Cross staff and volunteers must be respected and protected at all times. Our statement: ifrc.org/press-release/…

Following the recent escalation of conflict in Iran, the @IFRC has launched an emergency appeal to support the Iranian Red Crescent Society @Iranian_RCS to scale up humanitarian assistance in key areas including emergency shelter support, relief items and household supplies, health services, water and sanitation support, and community-based mental health and psychosocial services. The @IFRC calls on governments, donors and partners to urgently support this appeal to ensure that critical aid reaches communities affected by the crisis. ifrc.org/press-release/…

As the world is grappling with multiple crises, achieving gender equality is more vital than ever. On this International Women’s Day, we pay tribute to the extraordinary women across the @IFRC network whose dedication and resilience inspire us every day. Along the journey, women from the IFRC network teams are always there, on the front lines, facing humanitarian challenges with unwavering commitment and compassion. As we celebrate their achievements, we also call on everyone to take action to dismantle gender barriers and amplify the voices of all women and girls. Let's stand together and work towards the IFRC’s ambition of promoting an inclusive and equitable world where diversity is championed and where everyone is treated with dignity and fairness. #IWD2026

Great to meet @jagan_chapagain at #MSC2026. Norway strongly supports @IFRC and the Red Cross Movement in a time of major global challenges. National societies are key to fast, locally led humanitarian response, especially on food security and health.

Thank you @US_SrAdvisorAF for the kind words and for highlighting the vital, often dangerous work 17 million Red Cross Red Crescent volunteers are carrying out in Sudan, DRC, Gaza and beyond. It was a pleasure to speak with you. The US support remains vital to deliver lifesaving aid efficiently amid immense challenges embodying the spirit of humanity and impartiality. We deeply appreciate continued support and solidarity to help reach more people in need. Together, we can make a real difference.

The @IFRC has launched an emergency appeal to support the Malagasy Red Cross Society @MadaRedCross in providing life-saving assistance after back-to-back cyclones tore through Madagascar in just ten days. The storms killed dozens of people and affected more than 450,000. Homes, schools, health facilities and livelihoods have been destroyed, and rising floodwaters are increasing the risk of disease outbreaks, leaving thousands of families without shelter or basic services. I am deeply saddened to announce the tragic death of volunteer Samiha Rakhamiya of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent who lost her life while carrying out a humanitarian mission to rescue people stranded by floods in rural Lattakia. Five other volunteers were also injured. On behalf of the @IFRC, I send my deepest condolences to her loved ones and colleagues at the @SYRedCrescent and wish a full recovery to the injured.

It has been three months since Hurricane Melissa devastated Jamaica and Cuba. As emergency relief winds down and global attention fades, long-term needs are growing. Families are rebuilding, children are recovering, and communities require sustained support during this critical phase of response. The @Jamaicaredcross and Cuba Red Cross, supported by the @IFRC, remain on the ground supporting recovery where needs are greatest. Fast forward to today: here is a glimpse of what we have achieved together. 👇

Today in Vienna, I met with H.E. Beate Meinl-Reisinger, Federal Minister for European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria @MFA_Austria. We discussed how the @IFRC and the Austrian Red Cross @roteskreuzat can continue to serve as trusted partners for principled humanitarian action at a time when the rules-based international order faces growing challenges. I warmly thanked Austria for its long-standing support to the IFRC, including through the @IFRC_DREF as well as emergency response operations in Sudan, Lebanon, Türkiye and Syria, and Ukraine. We also exchanged views on IFRC Renewal and the need to invest in locally-led humanitarian action and in prevention and preparedness. Austria is a strategic partner and we greatly value this partnership. We are grateful for Austria’s continued support to the IFRC and the @roteskreuzat.

No matter how tough the global context gets, people will always turn to the @IFRC network with their trust, and we will always be there for them, worthy of that trust. This deep sense of community partnership lies at the heart of our 2026 plan, just as we work hand in hand with our member National Societies to nurture lasting resilience in the communities we are privileged to serve.
