What’s the hardest situation you’ve been in? For Viktor Frankl, it was surviving in concentration camps for 3 years. While the suffering he endured was terrible, he learned some surprising lessons. He wrote, "Suffering had become a task on which we did not want to turn our backs. We had realized its hidden opportunities for achievement." Frankl's grueling struggles gave him meaning, and our lighter struggles can do the same. I made this chart, the Struggle-fish of Meaning, to show that as tension increases, so do feelings of meaning and anger. The trick is to find a happy medium where you're challenging yourself enough to do meaningful things, but not so much that anger consumes you. I'll explain more in my newsletter coming out tomorrow.

@doug_oberbeck Nice way of turning a negative into a positive 🔄 I think a lot of people, subconsciously, or consciously, fall into a mental doom spiral when things start to break down like that. The trick is keeping a positive attitude.

Yesterday I thought my day was doomed. More calls booked than normal. Random errands popped up. Wife was sick. Ended up being one of my most productive days in a while. I had the energy to make every free minute count, which trumps having hours of time and no energy

Here's the secret to having more time in your day It's not about cutting Netflix It's about investing in you for 30 min to an hour An hour long workout will give you 2 hours of energy in return. More energy = more productivity. You get more done, then you go enjoy your show.

@dickiebush Good advice. Also, if you get stuck, ask ChatGPT to come up with ideas to expand based on your topic. AI isn’t a great writer by itself, but it can come up with quick inspiration in a pinch!

Write on a timer. Write with a word limit. Write to answer a specific question for a specific person. Don't just sit down to "write." Add constraints. Because constraints breed creativity.

If you do what everyone else does, you’ll get the results that everyone else has, and that isn’t pretty. So if you want poor mental health, little money in the bank, and relationships you’re too afraid to end - keep caring what other people think.
