Furthermore, Megasthenes was stunned by how much Indians valued freedom. Coming from Greece and Rome, where slavery was brutal and widespread, he wrote in awe that all Indians were free and no one was treated as a slave. Finally, the honesty of the people surprised him. He noted that in a massive military camp of 400,000 men, thefts almost never happened. Because people trusted each other so deeply, society ran smoothly without written contracts or law books, relying entirely on custom and word of mouth. #archaeohistories

27 years of #Kargil #LestWeForgetIndia🇮🇳 Subedar Lobzang Chhotak Vir Chakra (P) Ladakh Scouts (IW) Sub Chhotak made the supreme sacrifice fighting the enemy at Point 5203, #OnThisDay 19 May 1999 Sub Chhotak of lndus Wing Ladakh Scouts was the patrol leader of a special mission patrol tasked to occupy Point 5283 situated along the Line of Control in 'Operation Thunderbolt'. On 19 May 1999 at approximately 0330 hrs, Sub Chhotak spotted an enemy bunker near the ridgeline South East of Point 5283. Firing from his weapon and without caring for his personal safety, Sub Chhotak along with Sep Tsering Dorje attacked the enemy. In the ensuing firefight, Sub Chhotak was hit in the forehead and face by the enemy bullets. Despite being badly injured, he continued to fire his weapon and charged on the enemy, thus enabling other personnel of his patrol to move to a flank. However, Sub Chhotak succumbed to his injuries on the spot. In this action, Subedar Lobzang Chhotak displayed highest order of courage and mental strength in the face of the enemy.
