For 65 consecutive years, Congress put politics aside to fund our military. But last week, Democrats broke precedent and blocked the defense bill.

@SenateGOP We have been asking you for our earned retirement for a while now. Soldiers keep getting hurt and you refuse to pass #MajorRichardStaract. You should not get a dime until this is corrected!

Our men and women in uniform are counting on Congress.  This year’s annual defense bill increases pay for our troops, updates housing and other quality-of-life projects, and expands recruiting opportunities. But Senate Democrats blocked it.

The Take Care of America’s Veterans Act expands the American Dream for student veterans and servicemembers transitioning out of the military by giving them more options for how to use their earned benefits. These are pro-growth policies to make a difference in American family’s lives.

The Take Care of America’s Veterans Act isn’t dead in the House yet. Veterans deserve expanded telehealth, suicide prevention, and improved access to health care, and another vote on the bill can deliver that.

@HouseVetAffairs I bet they won’t pass it. This and the stand alone Major Richard Star Act are tools to blame each other and at this end not help a single Veteran.

David Star – surviving brother of Maj. Richard Star knows that families like his have waited too long for relief. The Take Care of America’s Veterans Act would finally deliver for combat-wounded veterans who have waited years for action.

The Take Care of America’s Veterans Act would bring real relief to families like the Edmundsons and Brileys. Eric, who was hit by an IED in Iraq in 2005, would get the increased benefits he deserves. Sharri’s husband was killed in action during the Black Hawk incident in 1993. She would get the increased benefits she deserves. They are our why – let’s get H.R. 9237 done for them.

Today, I stood alongside 23 Veterans Service Organizations and the surviving brother of Major Richard Star in support of the Taking Care of America's Veterans Act, which is expected to be considered on the House Floor later this week. This bipartisan legislation includes key provisions of my Major Richard Star Act, bringing long-overdue justice to nearly 60,000 medically retired combat Veterans by restoring concurrent receipt of the retirement pay and disability benefits they earned through their service and sacrifice. While I remain committed to achieving full concurrent receipt for every disabled Veteran, this package represents a significant step forward and will provide meaningful, immediate relief to tens of thousands of our nation's heroes. In addition to the Richard Star provisions, the bill includes 59 other bipartisan measures that will strengthen benefits and services for Veterans, surviving spouses, caregivers, and military families. The urgency of passing this legislation has never been greater. Earlier today, the Department of Veterans Affairs advanced its rulemaking process to implement proposed changes to future disability ratings for tinnitus and sleep apnea - the very policies that serve as the funding mechanism for this legislative package. If those changes are implemented administratively rather than through Congress, the resulting savings will be diverted elsewhere instead of being reinvested in critical Veteran priorities. Congress has a clear opportunity to ensure those savings are used to fulfill our promises to those who have worn the uniform. The time to act is now. Our Veterans—and the families who have sacrificed alongside them—have waited far too long.

South Carolina sends some of the best to serve this country. They deserve a representative willing to go to Washington and deliver. We have introduced over a dozen bills in support of our military: legislation protecting our bases, supporting our veterans, and making sure our servicemembers have the resources they need when they get home. We have helped secure nearly $1 BILLION in funding for military installations right here in the Lowcountry. We will ALWAYS support our troops.

As drafted, our veterans would get NOTHING from reconciliation. Republicans must accept RM @RepMcGovern's amendment to add the Major Richard Star Act to this $95 billion bill.
