@metpoliceuk @TRobinsonNewEra The proper way to handle people who walk around and stab others is quite simple. You shoot them dead. Do your officers not even have a handgun? 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Yes, the people who call themselves 'trans' exist and they deserve exactly the same rights as everyone else, which, fortunately, they already have in the UK. It would rightly be considered discrimination if a person was refused employment, housing or the vote because they identified as trans. 'Trans women are women' is a thought-terminating cliché. Men are not women. That doesn't mean they're not allowed to present themselves however they like, call themselves whatever they like and believe whatever they like about themselves. It means they haven't changed sex. If we replace the objective, observable characteristic of sex with the unfalsifiable concept of gender identify, women and girls lose, among other things, their right to fair and safe sport and women-only spaces, including changing rooms, prison cells and rape crisis services. Women and girls are provably more vulnerable to forms of abuse including sexual assault, harassment and voyeurism in mixed-sex spaces. There is no evidence that trans-identified men don't have exactly the same rates of criminal offending as all other men. Trans people exist. I have no desire for them not to exist; indeed, I wish them safety, happiness and health. However, 'existence' does not, and should not, mean the violation of other people's right to privacy, dignity and freedom of speech, or the reconfiguration of society to indulge a fallacy.

@generallysucks @TheAlexSylvian I thoroughly enjoyed Gardens which is why I read the next one. It gets blown out of the water by the grandeur of the rest of the series but is still worth reading in its own.

@wife_geist Yeah. The contraction trends of the 1800s give us a lot of weird terms today, e.g. Soccer.

I’m sorry, genuinely asking but i thought Jesus died on a Friday afternoon. Going by that and the fact that he resurrected 3 days after, aren’t we meant to be celebrating Easter on Monday and not Sunday?

“I wouldn’t have predicted David Mitchell’s personal politics curdling as he became ever more famous until suddenly he was our Roger Allam in V For Vendetta. But you know what? Considering they make us watch it, he’s quite witty isn’t? Always was very witty. Oh—stand for anthem.”

Fun fact: Lucas liked The Last Jedi, unlike the installments that Abrams directed. The reason is simple, and revealed here—he wanted something new. Further, the crap that the worst and most negative fans pile on Rian Johnson for Luke Skywalker's arc? That was heavily based on Lucas's own original ideas—a broken Luke in self-imposed exile, haunted by a betrayal of a student, cut off from the Force, and acting as a mentor to a young female protagonist only reluctantly. Hottest of takes here, but Rian Johnson was simply one of the best directors we ever had on a mainline Star Wars installment, and the fandom is full of childish idiots that should have been ignored. He has the originality of Lucas, respected his vision, and is innovative and the master of his craft. He managed to get more emotion out of the actors for Rey, Kylo, and Luke than Abrams ever did, and his special effects were interesting and spectacular. The throne room scene in particular was truly great. That more people do not appreciate what Johnson did is because they are philistines. He should have been allowed to direct and write all three installments. Somewhere in an alternative universe, people there got to enjoy a sequel trilogy that wasn't childish and derivative trash. I'm jealous.

Bob Iger on George Lucas' disappointment after seeing The Force Awakens: "He didn’t hide his disappointment. ‘There’s nothing new,’ he said. In each of the films in the original trilogy, it was important to him to present new worlds, new stories, new characters, and new technologies. In this one, he said, ‘There weren’t enough visual or technical leaps forward.’ He wasn’t wrong, but he also wasn’t appreciating the pressure we were under to give ardent fans a film that felt quintessentially Star Wars. We’d intentionally created a world that was visually and tonally connected to the earlier films, to not stray too far from what people loved and expected, and George was criticizing us for the very thing we were trying to do." Was George right in his criticism?

he’s won a lot, from grand tours to world championships, but milan-san remo for me is one of tadej pogačar’s finest victories. to force yourself into contention at a sprinter-favouring race, lose and lose again, crash before the cipressa and then finally win in some style. wow.
