Step right into the burning hell Where some of the best-known enemies of mankind dwell Mr. Freud with his dreams, Mr. Marx with his axe See the raw hide lash rip the skin from their backs Got the right spirit, you can feel it, you can hear it You've got what they call The Immortal Spirit. You can feel it all night, you can feel it in the morn' It creeps in your body the day you were born. -Bob Dylan

I am emphatically not panicking about Mythos. Sounds very powerful. Sounds very cool. Sounds terrifying. Sounds like a pitch. The same sort of AI doom pitch we've been fed for years.

Many boomers don't think "transgressive" is cool, but they set their own boundaries of transgression. Anything that goes beyond boomer-transgression is not cool. They don't realize they set the boundary precisely at the gates of Hell, and young people today just shrug at insanity because the boundary has dissolved completely. There is no transgression if there is no boundary.
TheShadowbanned@ShadowbanSlam

@memeticsisyphus The thing is, most people just don't care. The last prudish generation were the greatest gen, who are almost all dead now. Boomers think its trangressive which to them is code for cool. Younger people just shrug and are like "yeah, whatever."

If you could bring one game mechanic to real life, what would it be? Eg. Random battles would be interesting 😂

@blauer_geist Maybe I’m not smart enough to get it but Chinatown was pretty awful and boring compared to e.g. Big Sleep on which it is based

The new auto-translate is great for many reasons, but apparently when I reply partly in Spanish for a sort of comic effect, it just auto-translates to English ruining my attempt at a joke. Fix this, Musk. Por favor.

@Hyland_7 @BiancoDavinci Showmanship is craft. The illusion had to be designed and performed. This is just as much performance art as it is a "magic trick." Penn and Teller do that sometimes.

@BiancoDavinci As he walks from left to right the shadow of the vase does not project onto his clothing. It’s a great looking trick but nothing more than expensive toy with no craft at work.

1. A real fight exists over what Bitcoin is for. 2. The demand that everyone stop having that fight is the demand for neutrality. 3. Only enemies make demands for neutrality. “He who is not your friend will demand your neutrality, whilst he who is your friend will entreat you to declare yourself with arms. And irresolute princes, to avoid present dangers, generally follow the neutral path, and are generally ruined.” - The Prince, Machiavelli, Ch.21 There are no neutral sides.

The bleed over from the culture wars is getting really tiresome. Please eject that crap from the conversation. What matters is that Bitcoin is completely fine despite all of the hysterics. You can use Bitcoin completely undeterred just like you could a decade ago. Even more so now with Lightning.

Dear Japanese friends, I am a very handsome private investigator, like Magnum P.I. or Kosuke Kindaichi. I wear a wrinkled trench coat or, alternatively, a Hawaiian shirt, depending on the natural lighting in the area. I often interview wealthy relatives in murder cases or watch someone from across a rainy street, while eating meat in my car and muttering to myself. The car's a Toyota, because I need one that'll stick around longer than my ex-wife. Each case begins with something simple like a stolen painting, missing jewels, or routine homicide, and within two days it has involved the mayor, a congressman, a stunningly beautiful woman, and at least one dirty cop who wants to take me down. Money is something I need, but none of my cases make economic sense. I charge about $100 per day plus expenses. For some reason I don't charge for the three days I spent getting beaten up. I am very handsome, and at 5'10", extremely tall.

@HistoryBoomer My wife read the book and I haven't. She loved the movie in spite of some changes. Said the movie got rid of a bunch of iterations of experiments and made some minor but understandable changes in other parts. She gave me the impression that it was a good adaptation.

Both of my grandfathers fought in WWII, both in the Pacific theater. One died before I was born, in 1965, while saving people from a burning building in Yokohama. To this day, there is a small monument with his name on it . I have not yet seen it in person. The other, who lived many years after the war ended, brought home a profound respect for Japan. He bought and read Japanese books, learned Japanese words, even had some Japanese artwork in his home until he died. He taught me that the proper name is Nippon, not Japan. He taught me the names of Japanese instruments. He eased me into sushi. These were men who did their duty, which included killing Japanese people. In the first case, Japan honors my grandfather. In the second, my other grandfather honored Japan. This is history that has always been deeply meaningful to me, but might not be to anyone else.
