@HHillespie @default_friend Adoptive moms are still moms. Step moms are still moms. If you’re raising a kid and they call you mom, then you’re a mom. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m going to be kinda conservative this year. Happy Mother’s Day to just regular old moms, the kind with kids. I nonetheless hope you have a good Sunday if this isn’t you.

@1776Diva These people do not care at all, not even a little bit, about humiliating that woman for the camera. In what world is that ok? Recording her voice like that? For views? If they cared about her well being at all they would have left that phone conversation privately.

Imagine getting this phone call from your spouse... and realizing everything you thought you knew just shattered. Why does it seem like this type of thing is 𝘴𝘰 𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘵 nowadays. Has it always been the case or are we just more aware now?

GLPs can also cause diabetic retinopathy progression or non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION).
Liz@Chaumiere2

@eshugerman It actually isn’t, given that GLP-1s quite literally are a lifeline to people with binge eating disorders. The persistent fixation on food as the enemy to defeat, an obsession and disregulation that overrides your thinking everyday, all the time, GLP1s can neutralize all of that.

@RizwanKhan36271 @relicofvannjane @loud_socialist You would think that someone who understands how triggering food can be would be HAPPY that there is a drug for people that quiets food noise, the neutralizes obsessive thoughts about food, that no longer makes food and eating a minefield.

@Chaumiere2 @relicofvannjane @loud_socialist the dismissal of people who've actually healed from binge eating with this medication is infuriating. decades of fighting your own brain vs someone's theoretical concern. those aren't the same thing and shouldn't be treated like they are. glad you're talking about it.

re: the cut piece as someone in recovery -- they absolutely butchered a discussion of something that is probably a real issue for a lot of people -- being in eating disorder recovery while a bunch of your friends/support system are on glp-1s

@miraj_khalid123 @relicofvannjane @loud_socialist It made me truly wonder if this is how other people live their lives. And it’s not even “god I want to eat that food” my loathing of food also went away! I no longer felt like food was the enemy. It no longer occupied so much of my thoughts.

@Chaumiere2 @relicofvannjane @loud_socialist the food noise silence being what actually broke the binge cycle... yes. that's exactly it. i didn't even realize how loud it was until it stopped. been on a GLP-1 through formblends and the quiet in my head around food is something i couldn't have described before experiencing.

@relicofvannjane @loud_socialist GLP-1 literally saved me from a decades long battle with a binge eating disorder, so I find this discourse to be pretty frustrating! Me having found a wonderful cure for my ED in GLP-1s doesn’t somehow become a harmful environment for other people’s ED recovery.

@doritsdrinkordr @JillFilipovic Same. GLP-1s have been life changing for my decades long disordered eating. The simple relief of just not *thinking* about food in an obsessive way is such a relief. Not just “I want food” but even the opposite, constantly thinking about how I hate food. It’s just neutralized.

@JillFilipovic As someone who struggled with disordered eating habits and pretty serious body dysmorphia, I’m doing fine on GLP-1s and am finally at a healthy size for the first time in possibly my adult life. Still eat Taco Bell and Wendy’s whenever I want, mind you. It’s not hard.

I actually feel very badly for this writer, who is in eating disorder recovery, and I hope she is still in intensive therapy. She quit a job because her officemates were doing Whole30! This is not someone who is functioning well in the world.

@CrystalLNosal @KaylaSaysMore The addiction part is key!! That writer actually makes a point to liken herself to an alcoholic in recovery while ignoring the fact that GLP-1s are showing incredible benefits toward addiction recovery for many people. She’s crapping on a drug helping people who have addictions!

Just listened to a Search Engine episode about GLP-1s where a doctor made the point that this is an incredible breakthrough for sick/disabled people but the perspectives we amplify are the ones she’s been reading her whole life (able bodied women feeling bad about their weight)

@princessesierra @pzyduckie As someone who struggled for *decades* with a binge eating disorder, it’s so hypocritical to see this author liken herself to an addict who needs special sensitivity toward HER disorder while dismissing the drug that is lifechangingly positive for other people’s eating disorders.

@princessesierra @pzyduckie Now imagine there is a drug that can make it so that recovering alcoholics no longer feel compulsion toward alcohol. Triggers no longer trigger them, the fear of “slipping up” is relieved, the desire/addiction isn’t even background noise anymore. That is GLP-1s for many people.

@princessesierra @EmmaJanePettit @TheCut GLP-1s literally save people from eating disorders. Ask anyone who has struggled with binge eating & the immense feeling of relief that occurs when all that obsessive thinking, the food noise, the inability to regulate just STOPS. Like getting space to breathe. It’s a lifeline.

@offbeatorbit She is so wildly dismissive of GLP-1s as merely being a desire for thinness, while saying that her recovery is triggered like an alcoholics would be around alcohol. But GLP-1s are out here saving people from that same triggering mechanism around food and food disorders.

@offbeatorbit Her ending points are fascinating because she likens herself to an addict in recovery seemingly not understanding that GLP-1s are hugely helpful for those with addictions. For me it literally solved decades of a binge eating disorder. Food noise, obsessive thinking, shame, gone.

Explains why she was triggered, but idk man...we have no idea why her friend is on a glp-1 and she could be prescribed it for a perfectly good reason. This comes across as so sanctimonious and self-centered of the author.
alyssa@alyssaegoldberg

Amazing out of context but if you read the article the writer had an eating disorder for over a decade and that literally changes your worldview — Ro ads, friends orienting their lives towards thinness & the ubiquity of diet culture are all direct interferences with recovery

@jasontconnor @NiamhMCBrennan2 There is no evidence at all at this time that it was an all evidence points to Israel/US. x.com/geoconfirmed/s… The only people claiming it was an Iranian bomb come from unreliable telegram chat groups and Facebook pages. Not a single reputable source.
GeoConfirmed@GeoConfirmed

GeoConfirmed Iran. Statement regarding our posts about the bombing of a girls’ elementary school reportedly resulting in the deaths of over 100 girls. Because many readers still misunderstand our posts or how geolocation verification works, I will explain this as simply as possible. 1) The girls’ school was located next to a military base and according to multiple sources even within the perimeter of that base. However, this does not make it a legitimate target under the Law of Armed Conflict, even if it was within the premises. The school was not in Pakistan or Afghanistan, as some claims suggest. (because the location is GeoConfirmed) The footage is not old. In Iran, schools are open Saturday through Thursday. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Workweek_…). Fact: The school, located in Minab, Hormozgan Province, Iran, was destroyed, based on the footage. Geolocation of the school bombing: x.com/GeoConfirmed/s… - 2) The claim that the explosion was caused by a failed IRGC missile launch has no supporting evidence, at this time (!). The widely circulated footage used to support this theory originates from a location approximately 1,300 km away from the school. It is impossible that a missile failure visible there caused the bombing at such a distance. At this moment, there is no proof that a failed missile launch caused the incident. (See below or x.com/GeoConfirmed/s…) - Using logic. Given the school’s position, next to and possibly integrated into a military facility, the more logical explanation is that the school was mistakenly targeted during an attack on the base. A thorough investigation is required to confirm this assessment, or additional verifiable evidence must emerge to support alternative claims. When conducting analyses, always consider the principle of "Occam’s Razor" (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam%27s…): "When presented with competing hypotheses about the same prediction and both hypotheses have equal explanatory power, one should prefer the hypothesis that requires the fewest assumptions." In this case, the only “evidence” for the failed IRGC missile launch claim has been proven false. Therefore, there is currently no credible evidence supporting that theory. Reminder: OSINT, and reporting (journalism) in general, is based on the information available at the time an investigation is conducted. Therefore, analyses may change as new footage or evidence emerges.

@Coleidoscopes I think people are severely overestimating how dire their financial situation is. They live on a luxury house on a 30+ acre property on top of also have a nice house in Beverly Hills they rent out for $144,000 a year. Their entire social circle is also VERY wealthy.

It messes me up that someone like James Van Der Beek was selling his life’s work to afford the US’s healthcare costs for his cancer.. and he still died. You really cannot get a better paying job than Hollywood in this country and that's still not enough.
