@mathewjdp So is Howard still someone you project here long term? I think you can sell a team on his potential and move him out for a goalie or a now winger with a little more size and track record. Jared McCann for instance.

Last thoughts on these players for the rest of the pre-season. Howard: The Hobey Baker winner can play mid-6 (3rd line more suitable) min right away. A complimentary piece that does his best work when confident. AHL seasoning would help but not by much. Savoie: A top 6 talent now. Dominant at outscoring opposition. Two-way, creative, and fast. Will make NHL club. Hutson: Lots of skepticism with consistency going in... just for him to consistently be always the best player on the ice. Too smart, too skilled, not elite but better than Howard. Should play NHL immediately. Marjala: Unfortunately stuck behind a million other centers. Really good but not game-changing like the other 3. AHL is his future but maybe NHL in the near future? Probably not 🥲 Beryozkin: a better version of Marjala. Game-changing. Too big to get off the puck. Dangerous. NHL-Ready now. One last KHL season.

Edmonton had Savoie as a promising prospect entering 2024, with limited NHL-ready prospects for 2025, excluding Beryozkin, all others needed more development time. Imagine Edmonton entered training camp without players, including Howard, Hutson, Marjala, Tomasek, and Leppanen. This team would be much more dull, guaranteeing roster spots to the usual suspects. Savoie, Hutson, Marjala, and Howard are all 23 and under, and the best prospect pools often feature a similar number of prospects competing for NHL roster spots each year that showcase skilled players. The dramatic shift in the prospect pool might be surprising with talented prospects like Hutson, Howard, and Savoie (Beryozkin soon to join). While acknowledging the skepticism of some, the focus should be on the intangible qualities. These qualities include: - Consistency of play - Off-puck work - Transition offense/defense - Layer creation and poise with the puck - And other factors These players are competing against established NHL talents like Henrique, Janmark, Jones, and Kapanen, and so far, all four have shown promising performance.

Hey @nielsonTSN1260 You don't have to say, "YAC Yards"; the word, "Yards", is already included in the acronym. You probably say Naan Bread too.

@Oil_Drop I’d like it if they brought Kevyn Adams into the building somehow. Some smart team is going to get him.

If the Oilers were to move on from Bowman and/or Jackson, would it not make sense to just hand Coffey the reins and see where he takes this. I do think the chance of Paul having a greater impact as a front office exec is quite real.

@EdmOilerlytics Well assuming they resign who they’re looking at from what I’ve been seeing they’ll have around 6 million to work with. I’d almost like to see them find a way to get McMann and marchment if they’re both ufa’s.

If the rumour to find a speedy winger to play with Mcdavid is true, wonder if they circle back on McMann. 6th fastest forward. Almost had him at the deadline.

#LetsGoOilers might want to think twice before talking about offloading Jake Walman: NHL '26 Playoff Points/game Defensemen Leaders All Strengths: #3. Bouchard #5. Walman At Even Strength: #6. Walman #21. Bouchard Amongst Oilers dmen at 5v5 Playoffs: - 51.0% xG in 2026 (1st) - 54.7% xG in 2025/2026 (2nd) Walman is a true 5v5 producer and driver of play in the biggest games, the playoffs.

@y2baay @nielsonTSN1260 If you're moving Nurse to Detroit, you're probably taking Chiarot back IF he's willing to waive his 10 team no-trade for EDM.

@mathewjdp Hopefully a line of say Nuge-Dickinson-Frederic can score well and rebuild him a little. I think there’s a 30-35 point player there.

@mathewjdp The Jarry and Frederic mistakes are very quickly going to cost him if he can’t figure out solutions. I think likely one of Cossa/Levi ends up here and they bring a 3rd guy to challenge Jarry for 1B. Bowman’s comments about Freddy make me think he’s penned in as 2/3 RW next year.

The only way this team gets back to contending is if they fix the nurse/jarry/frederic/walman problem. I think Frederic/walman get better with a long summer to reset but if either of 25 or 35 are on this team next year bowman should be gone.

Apr 24: I regret to report that things in Edmonton are bleak. We are in the 12th fortnight of winter and our main source of joy, the local hockey assemblage, has lost another match to the unassuming waterfowl from the south. Soon I fear we shall succumb to our collective sadness.

@KevinMcCurdy I have a question, whatever happened to having 93 and 18 together on the PK I believe in the woodcroft years and maybe knob year one that was pretty common but I don’t see them there anymore. I think especially with the injuries you should put them out there.

Ok, so lets throw the old 11/7 changeup at Woodcroft, poetic really: Doubleshift McDavid (less so) and Draisaitl (moreso) with Dach and Frederic. This solves some line matching issues, and more importantly gets you 3 solid (and I mean solid) lines against the ducks with a wildcard in the 4th. Draisaitl excels with this grinder types, give them the same mission Kap and Podz have and tell them to go ham. Having Stastney in gets you another solid PK option, which they desperately need right now. Stastney/Emberson is money at evens too. Yes I know Nuge has struggled, but this has been a solid enough line in the past, it's up to both him and McDavid to elevate, the rest of the roster is gold. This gets you an element of surprise that will make Q/JW work for. Consider giving Jarry or Pickard a game. (And yes, 11/7 is a preview feature I'm working on for LineBlender :))

Ducks are playing anyone they want against the 97 line right now and it’s going fine for them. Oilers might need to try a different look on LW there to try to get it going.

@OilBeak Do you not just sub Samanski in on the PK? Big/fast/hard on pucks/smart defensive player.
