It is a nice way to finish the semester / the year of research to see my article on the Welsh Anti-Apartheid Movement now published. It identifies how cultural and national factors specific to Wales shaped the different forms of activism during the 1980s #abstract" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

M Graham & C Fevre examine the local dimensions of the global anti-apartheid movement, using the British AAM as a case study to explain how anti-apartheid politics at the grassroots was shaped by its interactions with the local economic, political, social & cultural environment.

Carrying out the research and interview process for this article on the British AAM's local groups with @ChrisFevre was one of the most fascinating projects I've worked on. Available OA from JSAS International Solidarity at the Grassroots: tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

Based on previously unused Zambian archival sources, Mutale Mazimba's article uncovers the lives of the Mtenga-Tenga, African porters in the British Army in World War I, and the effect this had on relations with chiefs & communities at home. @MazimbaT tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

Very sorry to hear of the death of former Sheffield councillor Mike Pye. He chaired UK Local Authorities Against Apartheid from 1984 to 1994 and led groundbreaking work on the boycott of South Africa, captured recently in an oral history project with @ChrisFevre @UFSweb RIP Mike

It was brilliant to start setting up the Scotland, Global Solidarity and Mandela exhibition in @dundeeuni Tower Foyer with @UoD_Museums. The boards and various anti-apartheid artifacts from South Africa and the UK will be on display until 16 December!

@nicholasggrant @SAhistoryMatt Chris Hughton was vocal about his opposition to footballers and others who took significant financial inducements to play in SA during the 1980s. He also spoke at some anti-apartheid events. He featured quite a lot in the research we did. Perhaps we will need to revisit it...

Slowly recharging the batteries after a fantastic trip to Lusaka last week to run our @BritishAcademy_ writing workshop. Having been postponed since 2020, it was great to finally meet everyone and discuss various facets of the journal article and grant writing process
