🇨🇴🗳️The Abelardo controversy is a test of how Colombia handles direct speech🐾 Regarding Abelardo's interview today on Caracol Noticias and the reactions that followed: It is what it is. Abelardo is confrontational and extremely direct. Some people mistake that for rudeness, but bluntness and disrespect aren't the same thing. He says what he thinks. Voters can decide if they want that or not. Consider the country situation actually Colombians live in. - Guerrilla groups expanding their territorial control. - Cartels operating openly in entire regions. - The state losing authority in zones that were supposed to be recovered years ago. - Crime and insecurity overflowed in the cities The question isn't whether Abelardo is polite. The question is whether Colombia can afford another four years of presidents who are polite but ineffective. He says what he thinks. Voters will decide if that's the trade-off they want.

@fireflyweber @MarioNawfal when you make it impossible to do long term infrastructure investments these are sometimes the best alternative. a real question, assume they left and didn't provide this service but there was no alternative are they still better off ?

🇹🇷🇬🇭 A single Turkish ship anchored off Ghana's coast generates over a quarter of the country's electricity. The MV Karadeniz Powership Osman Khan is 299 meters long and pumps out up to 480 MW of power. It has been doing this since 2017. No power plant to build. No years of construction delays. Karpowership, the Turkish private company behind it, has quietly turned this model into a global business, deploying floating plants to countries with chronic energy deficits across Africa and beyond. Africa has an infrastructure gap that traditional investment has failed to close for decades. Turkey found a way to monetize that gap with engineering.

I will never forgive HBO/BBC for cancelling this prematurely and rushing the final episodes to wrap it up. They built these amazing sets which they could have used for 10 more seasons and then just scrapped them. And it’s not like they lacked for storylines.
cinesthetic.@TheCinesthetic

Rome (2005–2007) genuinely looked bigger and richer than most movies airing at the time. The sets, costumes, crowd scenes, political drama …every episode felt like HBO accidentally dropped a full historical epic onto television every week.

When NYC effectively banned Airbnb, the primary effect was that hotel prices skyrocketed. So not only is housing still expensive, but now lower-income people can’t even visit. Super helpful, great job everyone.

The thing is you frame market disruption and growth in terms of hurting other people. While there are winners and losers economic growth driven by these companies is clearly overall beneficial and net positive to society. You want to assume a world of no trade offs and have framing that growth is a negative force in society

Someone can certainly *make* a billion dollars. That’s not the same thing as earning. Growing fast and disrupting markets also often means chasing and wielding market power, political influence, and scale. Take Airbnb. They heavily lobby politicians against passing housing laws to protect working class residents because it’s bad for their business model. Airbnb could not exist at its current scale and size without the housing market destabilizations, displacements, and exploits that are supercharging the evictions of working people everywhere from Puerto Rico to Jackson Hole. Now young people are planning for a future where they will never be able to afford to own a home while others have 20 and live off renting it out to them at extortionate rates with zero protections. Yes, a tiny amount of people can make billions of dollars doing that. And millions of everyday Americans are bearing the cost.
Paul Graham@paulg

Sure you can earn a billion dollars. I've been teaching people how to do it for 20 years. The way you do it is to start a company that grows fast. You don't have to do anything bad to make a company grow fast. You just have to make something people want. paulgraham.com/ace.html

@NebraskaLP @RepDonBacon @Defiantly_Free Some thoughts, 1st equally in front the law yes. equally in being treated by other people yes of course but that's a moral no legal question. 2nd my point was most countries don't culturally allow to assimilate in the way America does and that is unique and that is a good thing

George Washington 1776: Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness is the inheritance for our posterity. Our free American people. Bacon (probably): Foreigners are just as American as George Washington because they said the oath in broken English like 5 seconds ago. Same thing.
Rep. Don Bacon 🇺🇸✈️🏍️⭐️🎖️@RepDonBacon

A new citizen who said the oath yesterday is just as much a citizen as Tucker Carlson. There’s no two tiers in citizenship.

@NebraskaLP @RepDonBacon @Defiantly_Free It's on the one dollar bill E Pluribus Unum out of many one. The ideal of the country is built on an idea of what America is not ethnicity that's what he means by no comparison, most countries are not like that
